Now that it’s almost fall, I’ve been enjoying more and more pumpkin flavored things, and I figured, why should my butter be an exception? Homemade pumpkin butter is so delicious spread on toast or biscuits, mixed into oatmeal or pudding, or put in desserts like cheesecakes and trifles! In general, you can use this pumpkin butter wherever you’d use regular butter. But if using it in a recipe (especially a baked dessert), just remember that your pumpkin butter isn’t an exact 1:1 substitution for regular butter, and that it’s sweeter than regular butter.

This flavored butter makes a wonderful gift! Put your homemade butter in a pretty jar with a ribbon or bow, and maybe a cute gift tag to finish it off! It’s an especially nice present to bring along to a housewarming party or to a Thanksgiving dinner!

If you wanted to make extra pumpkin butter to keep for the future, freeze it in freezer bags, don’t try to can it to keep it for months on a shelf. Homemade pumpkin butter can grow bacteria very easily if canned at home.
