A Simple Autumn Fireplace Mantel

By Manuela Williams

I wanted to do a little something fallish for my fireplace mantel and decided I’d make an autumn leaf garland.

decorate a mantel for fall

Only I got rid of all my scrapbook paper last year 🙂 I used to decoupage a lot but last year I was de-cluttering all my craft supplies and I was thinking about what types of projects I really wanted to do. Decoupage wasn’t one of them.

So since I had no scrapbook paper, I made some autumn leaves out of a paper bag, some book pages and some toile wallpaper.

All the other elements were things I already had.

Like these gingko leaves.

As you can see, I used a couple of my sunflower heads on the mantel.

I’m going to add a wreath to the mirror – just haven’t decided what yet. Maybe something like the fall book page wreathI made last year.

Just a little something to celebrate the new season!

You got rid of your scrapbook papers? Wow. That takes careful thought. I don’t use mine very often, but when I want some, I want some.

You are so clever that you can make something out of waxpaper and cupcake foil and it would look wonderful. I love the idea of the book pages cut out like leaves and the addition of brown paper looks great. The first would’ve been too much of a good thing. It’s just darling. I’d suggest my square twig wreath, but I think that you need something round to echo what’s going on over your mantel. I’ll be watching for it.

So clever! I love it- it’s a very soft approach to fall decorating. What about a book page wreath? I know a lot of people said they were surprised about how many pages it takes and how long, but I kept mine pretty spare so it would lay flatter. I love how mine turned out and I think it would look great with your book page leaves.

What a great idea! I also want to de-cluttering all my craft supplies and think about what types of projects I really want to do. This is something I will keep in mind for next year, after I de-cluttered all my stuff.
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely idea!

    Love from Holland

Nicely done, Manuela. I did a simple mantel, too. Just replaced candles with pumpkins and put a wreath on my mirror. Happy fall! Linda

I love it, Manuela! The natural elements on the mantel are so pretty. And I can’t believe you made that darling garland out of paper bags, etc. You are so creative! The way you re-purpose things really inspires me.
