Homemade Peanut Butter Buckeye Candy

This Homemade Buckeye Candy Recipe has been a family favorite for a sweet treat for generations. If you’ve never had one they are sort of like a homemade Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.  The distinctive peanut butter and chocolate combo more than satisfies a sweet tooth and they’re very easy to make!

They are easy to put together using your microwave or a small crockpot like this. I love making them in a mini crockpot because while I’m putting together the peanut butter balls I can let the chocolate chips chill in the crockpot where they evenly melt into a smooth, creamy coating. Easy Peasy!

Homemade Buckeye Candy Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup peanut butter (room temperature)
2 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

1. In the bowl of your stand mixer combine peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and butter until well combined. Mixture will be a bit crumbly.
2. Scoop out a small amount of mixture and roll into a 1 ½” balls.

3. Place in refrigerator to firm up for 1 hour.
4. Now you can do your chocolate dip one of two ways- melt in a small slow cooker over low heat, stirring occasionally. Or you can melt the chocolate chips in the microwave – heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring each time until smooth.
5. Gently push a toothpick into center of a peanut butter ball until a little more than halfway in.
6. Dip in melted chocolate and roll to coat leaving just a small portion uncovered at the top.
7. Place on waxed paper and allow to set until chocolate has hardened.
8. Keep in the refrigerator and remove to soften a few minutes before serving ( I eat mine straight out of fridge cold-yum!)

    These are my all.time.favorite homemade candy! I saw your post over at Artsy-Fartsy Mama’s link party and just had to see if you used the same recipe I’ve always used…and you do!
