By Manuela Williams

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

We love puppy chow (some people call this Muddy Buddies) as a snack at our house and this recipe is perfect for Christmas since it’s a gingerbread flavor! It only takes a few ingredients and you’ll have the perfect party or snack mix that’s delicious, quick and easy!

This tasty puppy chow snack mix is a great treat to have out at a holiday get together (put it in cute cupcake liners or little individual serving size bowls). It also makes a great gift (packaged in a pretty cellophane bag with a ribbon and label). You could even include the recipe since I’m sure they’ll be asking you for it anyway!

Gingerbread Puppy Chow Snack Mix

Ingredients –

Ingredients needed to make gingerbread puppy chow snack mix

6 C. Chex Mix Rice cereal
2 10 oz. packages of Wilton Gingerbread candy melts (located in the Wilton section at craft stores and major retailers, the seasonal candy melts like the Gingerbread flavor are often in the holiday baking area)
2 C. Betty Crocker Gingerbread cookie mix
2 C. powdered sugar
Gingerbread sprinkles (optional but cute)
Gallon size plastic bag

Directions –

1. Pour the (2) packages of Gingerbread candy melts into a large microwave safe dish and heat in 30 second increments, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Set the melted candies aside and allow it to cool a few minutes before pouring over the cereal.

2. Pour the melted chocolate over the Chex mix and stir well completely coating all the cereal.

3. Pour the 2 cups of Betty Crocker Gingerbread cookie mix and 2 cups of powdered sugar into the gallon size plastic bag (a paper bag will work too).

4. Slowly pour the cereal into the bag, close and shake well to completely coat the chocolate covered cereal with powdered sugar.

5. Sprinkle the Gingerbread sprinkles liberally over the cereal. More is always good in this case!

Store in an airtight container up to 1 week – we like to keep ours in the fridge.

Yum!! You totally turned puppy chow into a holiday snack with this recipe! I need to go stock up on the gingerbread Wilton melts before they take them off the shelves until next year. Who says gingerbread should only be eaten during Christmas? 🙂 Thank you for sharing at #FoodieFridays!
