Festive Christmas Trifle Dessert.
Christmas is almost here, and it’s time to start planning ahead for all those fun holiday get-togethers. We love all sorts of Christmas food like dips, appetizers, main dishes, and of course, all the yummy desserts you can think of! These Christmas trifles are filled with an incredible fluffy sponge cake, whipped cream, and all your favorite fruits. I love them so much because they taste incredible, but also because they add vibrant color to your holiday table. While we do eat this trifle for Christmas, I have also found that it’s lovely for New Year’s and other holidays and events throughout the year.
Cheery Christmas Trifle Recipe
Ingredients
For the sponge cake
1 cup – All-purpose flour
½ cup – Granulated sugar
2 Eggs
½ cup – Milk
1 tsp – Baking powder
½ cup – Unsalted butter
¼ tsp – Salt
1 tsp – Vanilla extract
For the assembly
1 cup – Whipped cream
1 cup – Chopped fruits of your choice
¼ cup – Granulated sugar
1 tsp – Lemon juice
Directions
For the sponge cake
1. Take the eggs and sugar in a mixing bowl and whisk it until it is light, pale, and fluffy
2. In a separate bowl, mix in all the remaining ingredients thoroughly.
3. Now, very gently, mix the batter with the whipped egg and sugar mixture, folding just until everything is combined.
4. Pour this in a greased and lined cake pan and bake it in a preheated oven for around 15-20 minutes at 350°F until the top turns golden and a skewer inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean.
5. Let it cool completely.
For the assembly
6. To macerate the fruits, take the chopped fruits into a bowl and add the sugar and lemon juice. Mix it gently until evenly mixed. Let this sit for 5 minutes.
7. Cut the sponge cake into pieces and make an even layer of the sponge at the bottom of the jar/dish.
8. Now add some whipped cream and spread it evenly on top of the sponge layer.
9. Top the cream with a layer of macerated fruits.
10. Now repeat this same process, one layer of the sponge cake, macerated fruits, and top it up with some cream.
11. Let it cool in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before serving. Enjoy!
