I took down my Valentine’s Day decorations the other day and started a little bit of spring decorating (I’m so ready aren’t you). I thought I’d share a few photos of one corner of my living room with you today.
I love this white pitcher and use it all the time! I put a mix of yellow and green faux flowers in it for some spring time color.

I’m very happy with my Ikea bookcases! I love having a whole wall of bookcases and since some of the cases have doors, I’ve got more than enough storage now.
This is the chair that I slipcovered back in 2011 (you can read all about it here if you missed it). It’s my one and only, never to be repeated (I think) slipcover. I.am.not.a.smeamstress! But I do think that I did a pretty decent job for someone that doesn’t sew beyond straight line stitching and I would encourage you to give it a try. I’ve come to look at the slipcovering process like painting my kitchen cabinets or child birth. Painful while you’re doing it but you’re so happy with the outcome!
I had some brown transferware pieces on this shelf during the holidays and changed them out for these cottagey Thomas Kinkade plates.
A new bird & nest pillow from TJMaxx for spring. I love changing out my pillows! Sometimes I make my pillows, some I’ve found at the thrift store, some I buy. It’s really one of the easiest and most affordable ways to update your decor. Instant makeover!
The start of spring decorating!! Yay!

Manuela, you are SO inspiring me to make some seasonal changes.
Our icy weather of yesterday has turned to snow. Perhaps if I tweak the decorations, I will feel more like spring?

This is such a cheerful corner! Everything works together so well together!

I wish I were brave enough to give a try at slipcovers. I would so love to have a nice slipcover for our couch we’ve had for.ev.er! It is so comfortable, but the fabric is so dated. I would have guessed your flowers to be real. Nice little space!
Manuela says
Lisa there are so many tutorials out there. I used the Miss Mustard Seed ones because it’s a video and I need to actually see someone doing it.
I used painters drop cloths which are dirt cheap so you don’t feel bad when you mess up. I started the slipcover the summer 2011 and didn’t finish it until November 2011 I think. So it was slooow going because I hardly new how to use my sewing machine.
The hardest thing is to start! Once you start it doesn’t matter how long it takes you to get to the end and you may surprise yourself.
So I say give it a try. What’s the worse thing that can happen?

Happy to see your white IKEA bookcases. I’m thinking of adding some of them over my work tables in my studio. You did a fabulous job on the slipcover. I can sew just about anything but I would be too afraid to attempt a slipcover.

You did a great job on the slipcover, no matter what you say, Manuela! : ) You can add to the painting cabinets and childbirth that at least you can say you did it once! Love the plates. I have some of his plates, but they are not as nicely detailed around the rim as yours. Mine are in storage at the moment. I put some Spring decor out yesterday. Today it is flurrying.

A very pretty spot to sit with something tasty to drink, a good book, magazine or your laptop. I have covered many chair seats, but never tried to upholster something – not brave enough. 😀
Enjoy your evening.

I love the lightness of your room. Isn’t it great to be getting out those spring decor items? I see you have a few globes. I have always loved them, but only have one small one. I would have to rearrange things for more:)

It’s all lovely, and I can’t wait to start sprucing up this place for spring. I remember your chair project. My sister did her sofa not long after that, and she has said the same thing about it being her one and only, and she IS a seamstress. She said that she kept thinking while working, “Is this really worth the money I’m saving?”
To you and to her: Yes, it is. It’s lovely.

I love all of your spring changes. It all looks so very new and just simply spring-y! Your rooms look very sunny and bright. I know exactly what you’re saying about slip-covers. I made two, but I made them back to back because I knew that if I left one for later it would NEVER get done. It is much like childbirth, it’s painful and takes many, many hours! But oh the happiness when it’s complete!!!
Have a good week. Hugs, Cindy
