Today’s Thrifty Treasures & Make Your Monday

By Manuela Williams

Once again it’s Rhoda’s (Southern Hospitality) yardsale/thriftstore linky party! I’ve actually become a bit more discerning in my thriftstore shopping! Before, if I knew where I would use it I would buy it! But I’ve recently been going through some of my “stuff” and realized I really have a lot of “stuff”. So we rented a small U-Haul last week and I donated a bunch of “stuff” to Goodwill – a lot of “things” I had originally bought at Goodwill! I’m not sure where I’m going with this – only to say that I’m sort of tired of shopping for shopping sake! But I do have a couple of things to share with you today ~ smile!

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.

Remember when I made this “Inspire Me” board? It’s a visual reminder of the things that I’m working toward in my personal life.

Here’s the post that explains what it’s all about and how to make one How To Make an Inspire Me Board.

As some of you know, I’m re-doing my office/guest room to make it more “me” and I came across this great frame at Goodwill and knew I’d want to use it in my office. The inside of the frame is a sort of suede material. Anyway, I don’t really need another blackboard so what to do!

So I tried it out on my Inspire Me board and it really gives it some oomph! I didn’t even need to paint it as it’s a sort of burnished silver and works really well with the fabric.

I was going to nail it to the frame but realized that wasn’t a good idea so I hot glued it!

The artificial light makes the frame look gold below but it’s not.

You can see a bit of the bookcase that I’ll start painting this week! Here’s peek at a few of the things I have on my board. You can click on the picture above to enlarge it and view everything.

I also found this wonderful faded yellow matelasse for the guest bed for $14!

AND I found this absolutely perfect blue toile planter at Goodwill last week! Brand new! How perfect is this for a room that’s going to be blue and white toile!!

It was less than $3!! I love my Goodwill! I told the manager that the last time I was there. I told her she has the best selection and the nicest employees!

Edited to add this post to Kim’s:Make Your Monday linky party. Be sure to check out her blog for more creative DIY ideas!

I’ll be back to my normal postings now. We had a wonderful vacation! Thank you for stopping by and I hope you all have a fabulous week!

And I think I do and I have to get better at being choosier…if you have tips, let us all know! I love your frame and board and that lovely toile tin piece! LOVE IT!

I know exactly what you mean about shopping. Last year before we remodeled/redecorated our home, I went through every inch of it and got rid of a LOT of "stuff" that I just had to have at one time or another. Since then, I really think about purchases. I have left many things in the stores that before I would have bought. It really feels good to gain control of that part of my life. There will always be things for sale that I love but that doesn't mean I have to bring them all home!!

    Love your memo board!

Today’s Thrifty Treasures

By Manuela Williams

It’s time to show your thriftstore/yardsale treasures. Be sure to visit Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for more Today’s Thrifty Treasures participants. It’s always so much fun to see what everyone finds!

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.

I had a very eclectic week at Goodwill! I found him….

And added him to them!

I found these monogrammed spoons and forks. None of us have names that start with a “B” but I collect monogrammed silverware and I was just so excited to see some at Goodwill that I bought them for $2.72!

My happiest find all month has been these two items which I found yesterday!

A footed silverplate coffee/tea pot and creamer by Rogers & Bros. Last year I received coffee pot as a Mother’s Day Gift and later I bought one myself and sugar bowl. I thought I might start a collection of silverplate coffee pots if I could find ones that I really liked the shape of.

They cleaned up so beautifully!

This one was my Mother’s Day present.

This one I bought for myself!

I think they all look pretty together but I don’t think I have enough room on that tray to get one more! I think I need a bigger tray! (something else to look for at Goodwill)!

I made two of these pictures a while ago for my dining room and now I want to change things a bit in that room for summer. So I was looking for two identical frames with mats that I could use.

Found them! AND they were 50% off – which is only the second time in my life that I’ve actually purchased something at Goodwill that was on sale!

I knew I wanted to either use black toile fabric or wallpaper in the the frames and luckily I had a roll of wallpaper that had several nice scenes on it. I chose ones with dogs since we’re big dog lovers!

I’m really happy with the way they turned out! They each cost me under $2 and I think they look like wonderful AND I’ll have frames to use when I want to change them to something else. There are several online discounters if you don’t have a wallpaper store in your town. You can also get wallpaper at great prices on ebay. Of course, you can use whatever you want, but I’m partial to toile!

I have a pretty an easy plate project that I’ll be showing this week that will replace the rooster plates in my dining room.

That’s it for me! I had a good week at Goodwill!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week everyone!

Hi Manuela! I LOVE your tea pots! I love getting out the Wright's Silver Cream and seeing what's underneath old silver…always, it's a tresure! I am finding myself attracted to monograms that are not my own, too! lol Love your toile pictures. After all, they are little scenes, aren't they? I bet your garden is thriving in all of our recent rain! Have a great week!…Debbie

Oh, those are great finds! Love all your silver tea service pieces, they look wonderful all grouped together. And I love what you did with the toile wallpaper too.

Didn't know there were 2 Queen of Hearts. The one we went to is on Canton Hwy., so I guess from your's & Kat's comment, there is also one in Alpharetta. The Marietta one would be closer for you. It's just past the intersection of Piedmont Rd. on the left going north on Canton Hwy.

    Dear Manuela –
I'm trying desperately hard to catch up with my bloggy friends. Being away twice in two weeks was nice but it's so hard to catch up with you again! But I made it this far.

Your finds and treasures are wonderful. I love your collection of gnomes. I never see them when I'm out and about. And your monogrammed silver is nice. But I love the silver coffee service. My favorite of your coffee servers is your Mother's Day gift. I like the unusual 'scallops' and design. And then when I thought I'd seen it all – you added your wonderful toile prints. What a great idea. And so perfect! You are a very clever and talented lady, my friend. I'm always anxious to see what you have to share. I'll be back soon. Promise.

Today’s Thrifty Treasures

By Manuela Williams

It’s time to show your thriftstore/yardsale treasures. Be sure to visit Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for more Today’s Thrifty Treasures participants. I’m always amazed at all the wonderful things people find at yardsales!

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.

I want you all to know that I actually went to 4 yardsales Saturday (and I never go cause I don’t like to get up early on Saturdays) and didn’t find a thing! Although I have to confess I didn’t go until after 10 a.m and maybe that’s already too late! I did find a few things at Goodwill. I visited a new Goodwill in another town (Austell for all you ATL ladies) Friday and it was very nice and I got this.

I painted it black and put it in my foyer. I’ve been looking for a really large mirror for this wall and haven’t found anything I like or what I like is just too expensive. So I think I’m just going to fill that wall with all different thriftstore mirrors and see how I like it. So this is the first of many!

I finally finished painting my potting bench from last week. Actually I just dry brushed some hydrangea blue paint on as I wanted an old worn look for it.

This was the before! Go here if you didn’t see last weeks post about it.

Now it’s in my veggie garden and I have a place to wash my vegetables before bringing them in and a spot to pot up things! Plus I can capture the water and re-use it in the garden! I love it!

Every potting bench needs a chandelier don’t you think? This pretty fork chandy was a gift last year from my dear friend Linda ( who is a very talented mosaic artist and just generally very creative)! She has a few left in her etsy store. Check here Blue Gate Etsy Store if you’d like one too. They’d be great in a china cabinet or birdcage!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful week everyone! I’ll be back on Tuesday with something pretty in my garden.

I have two things I want to show you today. A pair of fabulous candlesticks and an oval picture. Both I got at Goodwill.

The funny thing is, I’ve been looking for big heavy candlesticks like this for a while now and I almost bought some that were wood and on clearance at TJ Maxx for $13 each!

It’s a good thing I didn’t – right!

I painted them a scrumptious red and I love how they look on my white fireplace mantel.

I’m still playing around with my mantel. I usually like to load it up with things but maybe for summer I’ll try a simpler cleaner look.

This picture I bought for the frame. I don’t see oval or round frames very often.

I got two black transferware plates at Goodwill a few weeks ago, one I hung in my dining room and this one I’m using with the frame which I painted black, the wrapping paper is from Ikea .

It’s now a very nice inexpensive piece of art for my bedroom!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my thriftstore finds!
