Thrifting Again

By Manuela Williams

Photo1
Hi everyone!  I hadn’t gone thrifting in long, long, looooong time since I’ve been in the decluttering/packing up phase. Last weekend I went to my favorite place to do a little shopping. The weather was gorgeous and it was so much fun to look at all the pretty things. Here are a few pics of what they had and at the end I’ll show you what I got.
oldbirdhouse
I’m so into old outdoor birdhouses right now. Isn’t that a cute one!
folkartbirdhouse
I liked this one too, but I didn’t get either since they were waaay more than my spending allowance.
swans1
What do you think of this? It’s made from old tires!!!
swans2
I think they’re planters (there’s two there – at first I thought it was a weird two-headed swan thing)!
blueladder
Some more cute outdoor stuff.  I saw lots of old painted ladders inside as well.
greenbistrochairs
yellowbench
I just loved this little yellow bench made from a bed!
redcabinet
Also loved this little red cabinet.
basket
There were some fun light fixtures for sale too! I mean really, where would you put that?
lampshade
This one was pretty because they had a beaded bulbcover on the bulb. Very Frenchy looking!
yellowcabinet
Wish I had room for this yellow cabinet.
stool
They had quite a few pieces that incorporated burlap. Including a rug made out of burlap that had been stenciled on (couldn’t get a pic of that do to poor lighting).
ladder
I’m looking for an old painted ladder to use in my garden as a trellis. All the ones in this store were crazy prices (in my opinion, but maybe they’re hard to find?). I might just buy a new one and I’m sure by next year it’ll look like that one!
dishrack
I thought this old dishrack was the cutest thing. Great for displaying dishes and cups&saucers on that bottom shelf.

Want to see what I bought?……………..
scale
Almost bought that black vintage scale. But instead I got this cute vintage picture!
vintageprint1
$12 and I think it’s just perfect for this spot!

**Moving News – soooo, we’ve pretty much decided to stay put for now due to a number of factors. To complicate matters, our daughter isn’t sure she’s going to stay at SCAD Atlanta for her degree. So that’s going to factor into where/if we move. So for now I’m just going to “bloom where I’m planted” and make the best of it even though this town isn’t exactly my cup of tea.

I do have some fun news to share with you all later this week!

Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

In the early days of unpacking, and trying to find space for what used to fit into a much bigger place 🙁
I really need to have a yard sale!
I can't bear to see all that lovely thrift stuff without buying,k so i haven't been in 2 months..I believe that is a record!
Maybe I'll blog about everything I'm gonna get shut of, rather than my acquisitions!
Glad you have decided to stay..your place is so gorgeous with all your pretty things..something to aspire to for the rest of us!

So good to hear from you. Looks like a good decision on the move especially with the current market, as well as a possible university change for your daughter. It's nice to see you were able to do some shopping and find a new piece for your home – beautiful as always!

So nice to see you post! And that you've had some decent weather. My garden is a mooshy mess from inches and inches of rain the past several weeks and the Mississippi in record flood.

Loved the picture. I liked seeing the cute stuff at the store! Thanks for sharing!

I keep looking at those old kitchen scales at antique stores. One day I'll buy me one but for now I don't have the space to store it!

I keep looking at those old kitchen scales too! I think I want a red one or maybe yellow!

LOVE that picture, it is an amazing buy for that price.

Looks like fun Manuela. Your roses from you last post are so beautiful!
I have my dad's old ladder that looks alot like that one with bits of white paint. I have it hanging in our garage right now, but putting it out on the patio with plants on it sounds like a good idea.
    Blessings,

If it's any consolation, there are just a few of us who are blooming where we're planted for a while longer at least, too. Now that you've got your home all spiffed up, you're going to enjoy blooming there.

Loved the thrift shop trip. Are you sure you have no room for that yellow cabinet? It would hold soooo many dishes. (I've got dishes on the brain just now.)

Looking forward to your fun news!

Well I am getting ready to move things around a bit so I could make room LOL! But one of my blog readers emailed me that she loves that cabinet and I think she may go and get it!

What a wonderful place to shop! I saw several things I would have loved. Your painting is perfect!

Does that fact that you are staying put for now mean you will be blogging more? Hope so!

Hi Manuela! So glad to see a post from you! What a great place; it looks like they have so much to pick through. I LOVE that yellow hutch! That is a great looking piece.

I know it's hard; I still have stuff packed up from a year and a half ago! Nothing on our end at the moment either and we are starting our third month on the market. I had a conversation with my realtor today about my "concerns", so we'll see if she steps up her game.

That was a fun tour of your favorite flea market. I love the print, and I am excited that your don't have to pack. I feel bad that you things didn't happen as you had expected. Good Luck!!
    P.S. Love your garden

Hi Manuela! You're right–that picture is perfect for your space!

I'm so sorry that your house-selling plans didn't work out, but I hope you'll find that blooming where you're planted is a great thing to do for now. In any case, I'll be glad if you have a chance to be online more. You're such a wonderful part of the blogging community! 🙂

It's good to see you back with inspiration. I would love to visit your favorite thrifting spot. My favorite thing was the bench made out of the bed.

I'm truly sorry about the move not working out after all your hard work. I know that you love your beautiful home in the roses, though, and I hope you have a wonderful RESTFUL summer puttering around in it.

Your painting is so pretty Manuela. I LOVE those bird houses, and if I found that yellow hutch, I might have to get rid of something to make a space for that. It must, at least, be good to not be living in limbo, wondering what you are going to do, and I know you must have the cleanest house in the world after readying it to put on the market. laurie

It is crazy how things change in a matter of days. As often as we have moved there has always been something big to influence going or staying. But I know you will enjoy having your garden and flowers for a while longer. I understand daughters changing their mind. Samantha is transferring schools in the fall because she has changed degrees.

I am glad you are out thrifting again… I live vicariously through your adventures. LOL

Did I see that right? That cool yellow was only $215? That’s a good price! Was this a thrift store or antique store?

    • admin says

      May 9, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Yep, $215. It’s a thrift/antique store that has booth space for dealers. But it’s not a high end antique store.
