7 Things You’re Forgetting to Clean in Your Living Room

By Manuela Williams

Everyone likes a clean home! If there’s any area of your home full of tiny things you can forget to clean (hello nicknacks), it’s the living room! There are just so many little areas that we homemakers can forget about or procrastinate about that actually become dirty really quickly! Make sure that your cleaning schedule isn’t missing any important areas by reading about these 7 Things You’re Forgetting to Clean in Your Living Room!

7 Things You're Forgetting To Clean In Your Living Room - these tips are great! Never even thought of #2.

It can be hard to keep your living room clean, especially if you have kids, but it’s worth it! It’s so much easier to settle down and relax with a book or in front of the TV if everything around you is nice and clean!

7 Things You’re Forgetting to Clean in Your Living Room

1. TV Screen + Mount

How often do you remember to dust your TV’s screen? Probably not as often as you should! Static from your screen attracts a lot of dust, so you should make sure to wipe it down weekly! And if your TV is mounted, don’t neglect all the little bars and gears that make up the mount. They can easily become dusty and even become home to bugs!

2. Mounted Surround Sound

Does your living room double as an entertainment center and have mounted surround sound? While it may seem a little troublesome, getting up on a ladder every week or so to dust your mounted speakers is actually a really good idea. Otherwise, you may find a family of spiders has started a nice home behind your speakers!

3. Under Couch + Under Chairs

An area you’re likely forgetting to clean in your living room is under your seating! Even with a strict “no food” policy removing the likelihood of errant crumbs, living room furniture can still gather a lot of random dirt, fuzz, and other debris underneath your seating. Make sure to move your couch and chairs every once in a while so you can vacuum under them!

4. Fireplace Exterior

If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home (working or decorative), then you need to make sure you’re cleaning the fireplace’s exterior! While most people will remember to keep the interior of a fireplace and flue clean for safety reasons, many people forget to wipe down or dust the fireplace’s exterior! So next time you’re cleaning your living room, give your fireplace a few minutes of your attention!

5. On Top of Bookcases

If you’re like me, you love to decorate the top of your bookcases by displaying all sorts of pretty decor! But something you’re probably forgetting to clean in your living room is the tops of those bookcases, and all the decor you put on them! Every month or more frequently, get up on a ladder and dust the bookcase tops and any items you’ve put on them. Neglect this chore and it’ll become a dusty mess up there!

6. Decorative Shelf Brackets

It may seem kind of nit-picky, but if you want a really clean living room, you’ll also want to make sure to dust any decorative shelf brackets you may have. Especially open form metal scroll ones! Those quickly collect dust, and spiders love to make webs in-between the scrolls.

7. Remotes + Game Controllers

When was the last time you disinfected your TV remotes and the kids’ video game controllers? Don’t let them become something you’re forgetting to clean in your living room! A quick wipe down with disinfecting wipes (I like to use my homemade ones), and they’ll be shiny and sanitary again!

Keeping a home clean without some sort of schedule is kind of impossible.
That’s why you need a Cleaning Binder!
It’s full of handy cleaning schedules to make it easy to keep your home neat!

How many of these things do you usually forget to clean?
