It’s usually frightening to read the list of ingredients on the back of of store bought mixes!  A number of taco mixes include silica and MSG not to mention way too much salt! You don’t have to worry about preservatives and other “extras” that manufacturer’s add to store bought seasoning mixes when you make your own mixes. Regardless if that is an issue for you or not,  it’s just a good recipe to have on hand in case you run out of your usual taco seasoning. One less trip to the store!

3 Tbsp. Chili powder
1 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. Paprika
1 Tbsp. Cumin
2 tsp. Oregano
2 tsp. onion flakes
1 tsp.red pepper flakes
¾ tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper
1 Tbsp. cornstarch

These small 4 oz. mason jars hold this recipe perfectly, if you want make more, simply move up a jar size.  Store in an airtight container for up to 4 months.

This taco seasoning mix is very easy to make and you probably have the required ingredients already on hand! Plus you can alter this to your liking – play with the amounts if you like a spicer or milder version.

I bet this is so much better then store bought. You are right amount all the salt that they put in store bought seasonings. Sometimes their just way to salt for me. Pinning & sharing! Thanks for the recipe!

I usually make homemade taco seasoning as well, and I like how you added cornstarch to thicken things up a bit. 🙂 I hope you can stop on by and share this or any other recipe with us on Five Friday Finds!

I love homemade taco seasoning – it’s so much better. And it really doesn’t take that long to mix a jar with multiple servings. Thanks for linking up to Show Me Saturday.
