You might remember my previous homemade chocolate caramel turtles recipe. I still love that recipe (especially since it only has 3 ingredients), and make it sometimes. This new recipe is just like the plus version of that one, with some extra yummy things added on! Give both a try and see which is your favorite!
If you want to include the kids in the kitchen more this fall, this is a great recipe to start with! This recipe is also easy enough for teens to do all by themselves!
Harvest Homemade Turtle Candies
Yields: 1 dozen turtles
Ingredients
1 cup pecan halves
18-20 Kraft caramels – unwrapped
12 Hershey’s caramel apple filled chocolates
Sea salt, to garnish
Directions
1. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. Make 12 piles of 5-6 pecan halves on the lined cookie sheet.
3. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the caramels in 30 second increments until completely melted and smooth, stirring in-between.
4. Add about 1 Tablespoon of the melted caramel on top of each pile of pecans. Be sure to cover every pecan piece so they will
stick together.
5. While the caramel is still warm, sprinkle with sea salt and place a Hershey’s caramel filled apple candy on top.
6. Allow to cool and “firm up” for 1 hour before serving. Enjoy!
If you can’t eat all your harvest homemade turtle candies right away, you can store them in an airtight container for up to 1 month or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
