Fall Mantel Inspiration – My 2013 Fall Mantel

By Manuela Williams

Hi! If you’re new here at A Cultivated Nest, welcome! Today I’m sharing my fall mantel decor!

Fall Mantel Decor - 2013 Fall Mantel
My decorating style is a more colorful one – so I had to add some pops of color on there. By the way, my fireplace is a fake one that we built. You can see how we made it here.Fall Mantel Decor - 2013 Fall Mantel - pinecone candle sticks with pumpkins

I found some pine cone candlesticks at TJMaxx that I thought would be fun to use (they also have them in gold and silver).  I decoupaged orange doilies from Michael’s $1 bins onto 2 pumpkins for a shot of color.

distressed pumpkin, washi tape pumpkin & decoupaged pumpkin

The pumpkin towards the front is an orange pumpkin that I painted with some Annie Sloan chalk paint and distressed. The pumpkin in the bookcase is one that I decorated with two different types of washi tape.

Fall Mantel Decor - 2013 Fall Mantel - fall chalkboard & candy corn candle holder

I  had a piece of chalkboard leftover from making the one that’s in my dining room. I also had a framed print that we no longer wanted, so I made another big chalkboard. I hand lettered the word autumn and drew some fall leaves on it. I also spray painted a silver candle holder in candy corn colors. For more candy corn inspired fall decor see this post.

Fall Mantel Decor - 2013 Fall Mantel - DIY burlap wreath on a hand lettered fall chalkboard

I also made my first burlap wreath! Which I found confusing for some reason but I finally figured it out 🙂 I love the way the wreath looks layered on top of the chalkboard! It’s my favorite thing about my mantel.

Fall Mantel Decor - 2013 Fall Mantel - basket filled with birch wood and pumpkins

I usually have a mirror with some candles and logs in the firebox area. For fall I used a piece of leftover beadboard from a downstairs bathroom project that I painted and distressed as a backdrop to my basket of pumpkins.  I made the monogrammed pumpkin back in 2009!

I hope you enjoyed a look at my 2013 fall mantel!

Thank you Jane! They have those doilies in different colors. I bought some white and yellow ones just to use around the house.

I love the chalkboard. Do you use chalk or paint to add the text and leaves? Great look with all the pops of white and orange.

    • Manuela says

      September 9, 2013 at 10:31 pm

I use chalk markers to outline things and then I usually use regular chalk to fill things in.

Great idea to combine the two techniques! I know I’ll be copying your fall leaves when I can bear to replace my summer loveliness with yummy autumn tones.

What I love about what you do is that you are one of a kind. Even if you are using something trendy, you make it your very own. I love that doily decor. Did you daughter do the chalk drawings because, if so, she did another great job with the leaves and the font.

    • Manuela says

      September 10, 2013 at 8:11 am

      Hi Vee,

Thank you! I did the chalk drawings and wording myself. I might do a tutorial on how I did it. I unfortunately didn’t photograph the steps for doing this chalkboard, but I have a smaller one in my office I might use. I just don’t know if there’s enough interest, so we’ll see.

I think the burlap wreaths are confusing too! I made some mini ones for my Etsy and I got the hang of it but it took me a while. ha! Yours turned out great and looks super full. The doilies are perfect. What a good idea. I may have to copy that one if you don’t mind. Pinning of course!

LOL! Good! I’m so glad I’m not the only one that was confused. Glad to be able to give you an idea you can use. Thanks so much for pinning!

I really like your fall mantel. You’re inspired me with an idea for a few of my pumpkins. Love the way you layer everything and I’m a big fan of leaning mirrors on mantels or dressers. I also love the chalkboard.
