My Christmas China Cabinet

By Manuela Williams

How are you doing with your Christmas decorating? I’m late in decorating for Christmas! We don’t have room to totally unpack everything so trying to find the box you need with the stuff you need is like playing a game of Tetris in the garage! We did put up our tree and a few other little things that I’ll share with you soon. But today I wanted to show you guys my china cabinet that I decorated for Christmas. I really love it!

Super cute china cabinet decorated for Christmas. Lots of bottle brush trees, glitter houses and lots of aqua and red!

Like I said it was a challenge and I honestly wanted to just run to Hobby Lobby (which is now Down The Street from me!!) and just buy new stuff. But I stuck it out and rummaged around and found things that would work. I think it all came together really nicely and I’m very happy with it! Take a look…

Cute Christmas china cabinet! Church glitter house and red and white transferware on this shelf.

The first thing I did was to put some Christmas wrapping paper on the back because I wanted some red without having to paint (it’s yellow beadboard behind the paper). I just measured the back of the shelves and then measured & cut out what I needed in the paper. Then I applied a little dab of hot glue to the corners and presto – it looks like a new cabinet. I’ve also used double stick tape before and that works well. You could use scrapbook paper too. I wasn’t too fussy about it since it just temporary.

Pretty glittery Christmas china cabinet decorations.

On the top of the cabinet I have a mixed garland of red berries, white berries and a string of light.  Then there’s a aqua glitter house….

Cute Christmas china cabinet! Glitter deer and bottle brush trees on the top of the china cabinet.

in a forest of bottle brush trees.

Pretty Christmas china cabinet! Vintage mason jar filled with Shiny Brites and other Christmas ornaments - easy Christmas decorating idea!

So my favorite thing here is the Atlas jar I filled  with a mix of Shiny Brites and some other little Christmas balls. Love those colors!

Cute Christmas china cabinet decorations! Bottle brush trees, red transferware and glitter houses!

I was looking for my Spode Christmas  plates but couldn’t find them – but I like these red transferware plates with the white rims against the red wrapping paper background! I used our everyday white china on the bottom shelf. I put one bottle brush tree in a red transferware egg cup.

Christmas candle display on a vintage silver tray.

All my interesting red candles are on an old silver serving tray. There are two that are textured like sweaters that I got at Ikea that I really like!

Pretty Christmas China cabinet decorating ideas. Bottle brush trees, glitter houses, red transferware and red and aqua colors. So cute!

I’m really enjoying how the living room is starting to finally come together!

Some cute ideas for decorating your Christmas china cabinet!

Thank you so much! I really love those plates. I had them hanging on the wall over my couch at our old house at one time.

Lovely. We rented one year with much of our goods in storage during that time. I had fun that year decorating with what I had or could recycle. It was fun! I especialy love the glitter houses.

I love it! You really didn’t need a thing. You must have been collecting bottle brush trees for a while…where did you find such fun colors? Last year I bleached some vintage trees and haven’t figured out how to use them now that my decorating is complete until I saw the one you put in the egg cup. I have several wonderful egg cups and can’t wait to make this project! Thank you.

Oh great! Love that you got an idea from this post. In previous years I’ve also put them in teacups. You can get a couple of little ones in a teacup and then put some cotton balls or fake snow in the cups to cover up the stands. Yes, I’ve been collecting bottle brush trees for a while now. I also bleached and dyed some trees years ago but they didn’t hold up very well to packing so I don’t have any of those left. I like to get the plain ones and then add stuff to them.

I really like what you did. This year I went with the “less is better” theme and am enjoying it. PS It will be easy to put away. :-p

Thank you! Yes, we’re doing “less is better” too – mostly because I can’t find half my stuff 🙂 But we did go through two boxes of Christmas ornaments yesterday and were able to fill a box of ones we’re donating. I just have to go through my other boxes of Christmas decor when I find them!

Oh, I just love your little hutch! The red paper in the back looks wonderful. You did a marvelous job and Merry Christmas.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

Thank you so much Sheila! I really like it better with the red paper than the yellow I painted. I may look for a paper that’s red that’s not Christmas themed and keep it up until Easter at least. Merry Christmas to you too!

Oh yes, that turned out lovely! I used a lot of white and red in my living room this year. You can see it on my christmas blog at http://www.christmastreelane.blogspot.com I believe in using what we have, too, and only buying something I can’t make. Like those darling houses you have!! Merry Christmas!

Thanks Vee! I saw that you pinned it. Yes, that’s what I thought too – since it has clocks on it – perfect for New Year!

Oh my goodness, I LOVE this cabinet! You decorate so beautifully. Can’t believe you found some of your Christmas stuff! Especially love how you did the top of the cabinet. Where have you found all your bottle brush trees with the ornaments? I can’t find any like that.

    • Manuela Williams says

      December 15, 2014 at 5:49 pm

Thanks Melanie! Oh my gosh, you have no idea what it took to find some of those boxes!! I love the top too but then I’m partial to bottle brush trees and glitter houses. Past couple of years I’ve set them all out on my mantel – a glitter village is what I think I titled that post.

I did a post several years back on how to bleach and dye those green bottle brush trees you find in a package at the craft stores and I’m sure there are more recent tutorials on Pinterest. But I’ve found my trees everywhere. Target has some this year – white I think. I buy the plain ones and hot glue my own stuff to them. I know TJ Maxx/Homegoods etc always have a few. I haven’t looked in Wal-Mart but they may also carry them.

It looks wonderful, Manuela! Love the way you used that red paper. I’ve put decorative paper in the back of a wooden cabinet before, but I’ve never thought of doing special paper at Christmastime. A cool, inexpensive way to make a big statement! And of course your treasures all look so pretty. 🙂

I really love this! Sunny bright colors, and I am such a big fan of bottle brush trees and glittered houses. L♥ve! I have a cup and saucer that matches that transferware pattern:>)

Hi Bethany! Thanks! So glad you stopped by. Oh I’m so behind on decorating that I’ve pretty much given up at this point and what’s done is what’s done (at least there will be less to put away) 🙂

Oh my, it is just breathtaking gorgeous! I love the addition of the red paper. Aqua and red is my favorite color combo. I have a large Atlas jar that I put a bottle brush tree in last year, but haven’t been able to find it this year. lol! Where did I put it? I have two of the same candles as you. The one in the checkered cup and the toile looking one in back. I think I need a trip to Ikea. Love them all together. Have a very Merry Christmas!
    hugs,
    Jann
