Awesome Ideas for DIY Family Command Centers
A command center is a perfect location to have all your essential information in one easy to find spot. No more searching the junk drawer or anywhere else for this vital info! You may be wondering what kind of items belong in a command center, so I wanted to take a second to let you know what we like to keep in ours.
- Calendar – Have a family calendar available so everyone can see what is on it. Try to color code it, so at a glance, you can quickly see what’s coming up. This will help little kids figure out the schedule too.
- A Place for Mail – Using baskets or boxes to put incoming and outgoing mail is beneficial. It’s a great addition to the command center.
- Stationary, pens, and pencils. Having an easy to find location for all your stationery supplies will save you the headache of searching the house for a pen when you need one!
- Keys and other miscellaneous items. It’s important not to turn the command center into a catch-all, but keeping items like keys, tape, cords, and other things like that together is a good idea.
Don’t know where to find the components to make your DIY command center? Check out Amazon! Amazon has letter organizers, dry erase wall calendars, whiteboard and corkboard combos, and other hanging and tabletop organizers to help get you put together your command center fast! There are even pre-made command centers available, if you don’t want to spend the time to make a custom one. Now let’s take a look at some great family command center inspiration!

These are all great! Since it is just Mr. Comforts and me and we work in our home together, we are pretty much on top of things. But I can see if you had children or crazy work schedules and you were trying to move this would come in handy!

These are all great ideas, Manuela. Especially for a family with children still at home.

Lots of great ideas. Could have used one years ago, but don’t need one now as my children are grown and dealing with their own hectic schedules. Great ideas and can see how they could easily be created on a small budget.

Thank you for including my Command Center; I’ve since moved and wish I had space for it in my new home. Maybe I can tuck one into a corner like Cassie from Hi Sugarplum did…. I love it!

These are great! I especially love the one with the large chalkboard. I found an old door and I painted each of the inset panels with chalkboard paint. We use this as our command center. We keep a running grocery list in one panel and a to-do list in another…etc, etc…love it! Thanks for sharing these great ideas and have a great weekend!

OK, do you know how sometimes when you read a post or an idea, your heart sort of starts racing? (Please say yes because I don’t want to feel creepy..) Well, that’s what this post did to me. I didn’t even know I wanted to create a command center. What’s to command? I’m usually the only one here.
And then I saw these spaces and fell in love with them.
I hope it’s OK to pin the whole post as one big resource. I’ll probably go and pin the individual ones as well because I think that’s a good thing to do, but I want the whole heart thumping resource in one pin.
Thanks!!

LOL! I’ve had that happen numerous times to me. It’s exciting to find a new idea! I personally think “command center” is a funny term – it makes me think of something military. There are all kinds on Pinterest – usually they involve backpacks. 🙂 I just wanted something to organize my family and our projects as we work on house projects and as we have professionals come in to work on projects. Plus I’ll have to have some sort of system for scheduling showings etc. Oh yes, you are always welcome to pin the collage from my blog. For individual photos I prefer people to go to the linked blog to pin (but people rarely do).
