Unfortunate, I injured my left thigh exercising (why does everything happen to my left leg?) which resulted in random sharp pains like someone was sticking a knife in my thigh. Not pleasant. Apparently I have some micro tears in my inner thigh and quadriceps muscle. I’m on a muscle relaxant which makes me sleepy and pain reliever. My Chiropractor has told me to rest and not to do anything at this point (I’m not supposed to even walk until I see him again on Monday) since I don’t seem to be getting better.
You can imagine how hard it is for me to do nothing!
Especially since I’m in the middle of so many different projects. Sigh….
Anyway, since I can’t do anything… I don’t have anything to blog about (I’m not supposed to be walking around taking pictures even). 😉
So I’m taking a break. Hopefully it won’t be for long.
My poor vegetable garden isn’t doing well so far. We had a freak hail storm that shredded some things then we had periods of no rain followed by torrential rain. All of my squash died and I had to re-seed it.
I just haven’t been able to go out and fertilize and tend to it as I normally would.
But I can always count on the cherry tomatoes. They are always the first and most prolific tomato in my garden!.
Kale and kohlrabi planted last fall. I’m sure the kale will be done soon. Which is too bad since we love kale and have it in our breakfast smoothies every day!
Basil for pesto!
I haven’t even been able to post about the blueberries, raspberries, plums, peaches and apples yet!
Hopefully, I’ll be back soon 🙂
Debbie says
OUCH! Something similar happened to me back in college. I was a runner (yes… really…) and took a really bad fall. I sympathize with you!
Your garden still looks better than anything I could grow. We love kale in our breakfast smoothies too. I actually like it even better than spinach.
Get well and take it easy!

I hope you feel better soon Manuela! I’ll add you to my prayer list. Some things just take time to heal, but it must be aweful hard on you to not be gardening, planting, digging, painting, building, arranging, recovering or moving something! Did you sneak out and take these garden pictures!? lol Back to bed woman!
Mary Ann says
Oh, I hope you feel better soon! I love how you have your garden beds laid out. Question–do you mind sharing how much space you have? We are in the process of purchasing a home with just over a half acre and I really want to learn to garden more and grow much more of our own produce including berries and other fruits. Of course, I’ll do it little by little, adding a little each year, not all this year! 🙂 Posts like these make me eager to get started!
Diana says
Take care of yourself and feel better soon. We have had your same weather here, record heat, drought, and then yesterday 3 inches of rain in one hour, complete with hail. Despite all of that I have had a huge blueberry/blackberry/raspberry harvest (all ripening at the same time!), and a peach harvest for the first time. However unexpectedly we have had to have the 3 and 4 year old grandchildren all week, along with their dog, since the day we got back from the beach — so my whole life has come to a halt, including needed garden maintenance.
I hope you can get back to your projects soon (then again, if we are going to have one of those record hot and dry summers where the garden is on extreme life support for months on end, it might be nice to have a good excuse to just let it go).
Glenda/MidSouth says
Oh my! Take care so it will heal properly and won;t have to deal with problems later – been there.
Enjoy your weekend.
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
Oh, Manuela, I hope you are better soon! I am sure you are going batty just sitting around unable to do anything. I hope you will be keeping your leg up and maybe go through your favorite decorating and gardening books. : )
Brenda Kula-Pruitt says
Wow! Sorry, Manuela. Hopefully you’ll be back in action soon. I envy you your garden. Hopefully I’ll have some veggies by fall. Take it easy.

Ouch! Sorry you’re laid up, Manuela. That’s especially no fun this time of year when there’s the garden that needs tending, too. I’m like you – I’m a doer. So I hate when I’m laid up for whatever reason. I get so bored! So, I really feel for you. Anyway, I think your garden looks beautiful despite the hail storm & other weather woes.
What are those tall, purple flowers you have growing? I love them!
Kim says
Oh Manuela, I’m so sorry to hear about your injury. As a gardener I know how hard it is to be unable to get out there and work in your garden at this time of year. I was in a similar situation with my back a few years ago and it was frustrating. However, it is so important to take care of ourselves. I hope it won’t be long until you are feeling back to normal.
Vee says
Manuela, I am so sorry that you’re leg has been hurt. Take the doc’s advice and lie low. You’ll be up and at’em much faster that way than by trying to push it. Hope that you have lots of decorating mags to read.
Vee says
You’re leg? No, you are not your leg. Good heavens! Typing too fast…
Kimberly Dial says
Oh no Manuela, please say it isn’t so! You’re my gardening inspiration! So sorry you’ve been injured … who said exercise was good for us? 😉 Praying you feel better ASAP. Your garden still looks lovely but I can only imagine it’s driving you a bit crazy not being able to get out there & cultivate!
Carol Cook says
I hope you are better soon. I have learned that I heal faster if I actually do “take it easy” so read up on your favorite blogs and get inspired for when you can get back moving.
Happy Healing!
Deanna says
That sounds really painful Manuela! I am so sorry!
Your garden is looking pretty good…

Oh MY, take care of yourself and we’ll be right here when you return! I hope you are able to salvage some veggies from your garden! HUGS and PRAYERS coming your way!
Julie says
OH NOOOOOO..:-( I am feeling it right along with you…(the frustration) Did something to my foot/ankle and have soaked and even gave up my walk with Kurt….grrrr…I am really feeling my age this week. It just takes T-I-M-E….which is just about the HARDEST treatment for us… ;-p so in the mean time keep drawing in your dream journal and making those plans for all that’s in your head…sometimes my visions are spinning like a pinwheel and I feel like if I don’t get them down on paper they will vanish! 🙂 Here’s hoping you DO rest and it heals quickly. The garden looks great even after a storm!!!! xoxoxo

Take care of yourself – and get well!

I pray for a quick recovery! It must be hard for you to just sit. For me it is back spasms that pop up, sometimes when I have no idea what I’ve done. Will keep praying for you.
Our spring has been crazy with record breaking heat in March, a cold April, and May ending with near drought conditions and record breaking heat.
One of my lettuces bolted but so far the romaine is holding its’ own. I’ll plan on us eating lots of salads before more 90+ degree weather is to return. My cauliflower looks sick, I don’t think I’ll try growing it again. My peas started out well and then I think are not going to make it due to the excess heat last week.
So far the kale is still producing nicely but I planted it this year in the shady part of the garden. I think that will help protect it longer from the heat. The tomatoes, bush beans, and pole beans are all loving the heat, of course.
I can learn each year what works in my garden but there is no control over temperature extremes!
Penny @ The Comforts of Home & Flea Market Makeovers says
It must be so hard for you to have to be still! Sending healing thoughts your way.
Hugs,
Penny

You know it is! Even though I can sit and enjoy the moment I am a doer. So it’s been close to torture! Especially my poor veggie garden. No garden thrives with neglect and I’m the only gardener in this family!

Hope your leg mends soon! As always, your garden is so inspiring. Fortunately, we have had lots of rain and everything here is growing quickly.

So sorry to hear you are “out of commission” for a while. Hope you get well real soon. Your garden looks good to me. I know what you mean about it being hard to sit and do nothing. I did alot of nothing for a good part of the last year due to illness. I thought I’d be back to my old self sooner but it’s gonna be later. Have to rebuild my stamina, energy, strength, etc. So I do things at a much slower pace. One of these days, anyway that’s what I keep telling myself!! And you can still post about the weather in your area, about your pets (if you have any), about plans for the garden. Take care. I don’t have a blog so will enter my Avon website so you will know I am not a spammer, ok?
Manuela says
I totally understand! I too am moving much slower and more carefully than ever before. I keep telling myself it’s a good thing to slow down and take more time to do things. I hope you feel better soon too!
Jodie Lynch says
Sorry to hear about your leg. I hope you feel better soon. I just planted two peach trees. Do you have any hints or tips? I would love to plant some blackberries. Your raspberries look so good.
Ruth says
I am sorry to hear you are in pain… not fun at all. I would take it as a welcome rest and an excuse to read piles of books and look at hours of movies, while being waited on hand and foot….
Linda A. Young says
I hope you’re feeling better, it’s so frustrating to be hurting and laid up. But your garden is still nicer than most. The cherry tomatoes are going to be delicious and the basil looks terrific! Give us your pesto recipe and I’d like to know how you make the breakfast smootie, with kale in it!
I hope your leg heals quickly! Blessings, Linda @ Grandmalay’s Daydreams

Hope you’re feeling better soon! Listen to docs orders otherwise it might take longer to heal. Your gardens look great. I want to follow your garden stories this year. No veggie gardens for me, only flowers. Well maybe a couple of tomatoes and some herbs.
Manuela says
I am being good but it’s hard 🙂

I hope you feel better soon! I will miss your posts and love your posts on your veggie garden 🙂 Love and Blessings, Candi

Take care of your leg Manuela! Muscle injuries are no fun at all. Hopefully you will be back to normal quickly. =) Your garden spaces look so lovely as always. I know you enjoy all of the fresh goodness you have grown. I finally have cucumbers and tomatoes growing which is very exciting indeed! The growing season may have began early this year, but I am not complaining. t has been so nice!

you poor dear…hoping mending is speedy. Enjoyed the pictures you posted since you can’t navigate around, they are lovely. I’m liking the angel in the glass window how, do you have a tutorial for that..it is lovely. Hope to see evidence of your moving about smartly soon….take care…

Thank you! I did take down 4 large pine trees and clump of other trees when when we bought this house. Sometimes trees just have to go especially if you want to grow vegetables or you at least have to remove a few of the lower limbs to let in more light.

Hi Manuela,
Sorry to hear you’re on the injured list.
Your garden is fantastic in my eyes. We can’t grow much where I live….no sun on the yard.
Hope you recover soon,
God Bless

Hi Manuela. hope you get well soon. I know about those knife stabbing pains as I get them in my knees all the time. Haven’t been by but I still remember you. Love your garden as always. Ours is doing great as well. Have a great weekend.
Brenda@Coffeeteabooksandme says
It was really hard getting the garden planted, keeping up maintenance, etc. with the wedding in May but so far it has been worth it. I’m harvesting a lot of the lettuce and kale so that will not look as lush soon!
I found online that the flower pots are available at Menard’s nationally. Here is the link, hope it works:
http://menards.com/main/search.html?search=flower%20pot&page=5
I expect your local Menard’s could get it in from another store if necessary.

Manuela, I hope you’re feeling better soon and can tend your garden again. It looks amazing anyway to someone from Texas where it’s blazing hot already and we need rain.
Again.

I hope you will be feeling better soon. My hubby is always warning me not to blow out my knee although it will probably happen one day. Your garden still looks good though for not much be done to it right now. Have a great Sunday.
Marti says
That sounds painful. I hope you are up and around soon. Your garden is doing great. What are the purple flowers?
Manuela says
aren’t they pretty! That’s my herb bed. I think it bee balm that I let flower but I have to check to be sure.

Ahh, the picture of the sun-ripened raspberries takes me home to summers in Pennsylvania! I don’t get them fresh off the vine out here in Chicago! Love the blog!

Your garden is absolutely adorable! We had a freak hail storm here in Kansas, too, and I was terrified it would kill the vegetable plants I’d just transplanted from our indoor greenhouse. Ever seen a middle aged woman, dressed in pajamas and wearing curlers, run outside in a hail storm to cover her “veggie babies” with her best quilts to protect them? The neighbors are still laughing about that one. And now I realize: I could’ve just reseeded! Doh!
