Hi everyone! I’m planning on making over my home office and I’ve been looking everywhere for a new desk and some type of storage unit for my home office and I think I’ve narrowed down my desk choice and I know what I want for storage. Yay!
We went to IKEA over the weekend and I’m pretty sure I’m going to get a desk from there. I’m partial to this red one.

Red and Shiny! Love it. It comes in white too.
I also love these two desks but they’re too small. I think I would have to do two side by side and I don’t want to spend that much money.
So what I’ve decided to do is to make my own desk because at IKEA you can do that! You can choose from a number of tops – wood/stainless steel/ glass etc.
How cool is this one!
You can choose from a variety of leg styles and other things like filing cabinets/drawers.
You can make any combination you want!
Here’s a desk with a hutch that I thought was nice but not for me.
For storage I’m thinking something along the lines of a small dresser with a hutch or small dresser that I can stack a small bookcase on top. I can find those things at the thrift store.
I think I’m going to do a red and white checkerboard floor like this!
There’s just plywood under the old carpeting (which really needs to go) so I can either paint it or use peel and stick tiles.
I have soooo many many ideas!

The bright red one looks like a perfect match with all of the cheerful colors in your home. My daughter actually has the glass topped desk with the “love” translations. Looking forward to seeing what you put together.

I am so out of the loop that I didn’t know you could build your own custom look at IKEA. I sure wish there were one closer than four hours away from me.
I love the idea of the checkerboard floor, and I can’t wait for you to blog it. Oh, please do blog it!

You know I will! I have to clear everything out of that room first though and that’s a job in itself!

This blog post is so timely, as I’m shopping for a desk for my home office/craft room/guest room, too! I had no idea that you could build your own desk at IKEA. I have an IKEA just 40 min. from my house! I know where I’m going…

That’s pretty neat, Manuela! I didn’t know you could basically make your own desk with Ikea. You’ve probably got more of a chance getting exactly what you want that way, too. Love, love the checkerboard floor. I would have done onein black and white in my craft/sewing room in the new place, but there was already ceramic tile down.

Lots of great ideas – Thanks for sharing.
I am trying to come up with a new work area and so far it is NOT happening. 🙁
No IKEA here.
Have a great week.

What a lot of lovely choices! I would find it very hard. When I fixed up my craft room, I knew I wanted a large desk and couldn’t spend much money. So I went to the university’s surplus store and bought one with file drawers on both sides. I works really great for me.

Mmmmm…. I don’t know if we have one of those here. But I’ll check into it. I once had a desk I made out of two file cabinets and then I put a cheap slab door on top. But I really didn’t like it and I don’t need two filing cabinets.

I have got to go to Ikea! I see so many people mentioning it in blog posts, and my sister would move in if they would let her! Maybe I can find what I need for a guest room in the new house. I love you vision and plans for your desk and floors. Color is such a wonderful thing!
Have a wonderful week!

There’s a red bookshelf I want to get at Ikea so that I can get rid of the two I have here in the tv room, then I want to get one of those small desks to put next to it so I have a place to sit and maybe do some paper crafting. If I can get organized then I might be able to find my supplies and actually do something creative (other than crochet — yarn is easy to stash and grab whenever inspiration strikes). I do like that red desk! but like you, I am drawn to the color. I do like the idea of mixing and matching things. Good luck narrowing it down. I know that whatever you do it will be great. Best wishes, Tammy

Want to do black and white when we get around to doing the laundry down stairs…but that will be in another year me thinks….got carpet to pull up and see what the hardwoods look like upstairs… you had FUN at Ikea…and the wheels were smokin’ in your head I’m sure as they were turning!!! 😉 Hugs!

You should paint it (your floor). We pulled up our carpet and painted the floor! It turned out so well! I am going to do a post on it soon! I can’t wait to see the finished project!

Wow, we were on the same wavelength last weekend! I came home with a top and four legs for my small nook in my bedroom. I didn’t care too much about the bottom because I’ll be skirting it in gingham. I’m doing a whole Swedish thing in my bedroom- can’t wait to get it done! I love those photos, Manuela- great inspiration for the look I’m going after too!
