I love getting a molten chocolate lava cake as a dessert when we eat out! Something about the soft chocolate cake outside, the gooey “lava” inside, and some sweet, cold vanilla ice cream on the side makes it one of the tastiest desserts, in my opinion. But you don’t have to wait to go to a restaurant to get a chocolate lava cake! And you don’t have to spend ages putting it together! Instead, check out how I made this Slow Cooker Chocolate Lava Cake!

This slow cooker chocolate lava cake is a slow cooker dump cake! That means that instead of spending 30 minutes or more measuring, pouring, and mixing, you grab a few simple ingredients and dump them in your slow cooker! There’s minimal prep time, but you still get a delicious, freshly baked cake!
Slow Cooker Chocolate Lava Cake
Makes at least 16 servings.
Ingredients
1 box chocolate fudge cake mix, plus ingredients to make cake
1 package (small size) instant chocolate pudding
3 cups cold milk
1 cup baking chips (optional- I used butterscotch chips, but you could also use peanut butter chips or chocolate chips)
Vanilla ice cream
Directions
1. Grease a 6 quart slow cooker by spraying with cooking spray.
2. Prepare cake mix as directed on box. Pour into slow cooker.
3. Add pudding and milk in a bowl and whisk until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Place in the refrigerator for 5 minutes or until set. Spoon over batter.
4. Cook, covered, on low for 3-4 hours. Insert a toothpick into the cake portion (not the “lava”) and when it comes out with moist crumbs, it’s ready.
5. Turn off heat. If you want to add baking chips, sprinkle them over the top of the cake. Let set, uncovered, for about 20-30 minutes or until baking chips are soft.
6. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
