I think it was back in May or so that we got some new IKEA bookcases for the living room. I’m only now starting to put the books back on the shelves in some kind of order! The tops have these open boxes that I think I’m going to use for display.
So in one of these boxes I decided to displaying my rooster/chicken collection!

The little blue and red rooster/chicken are these white ones below.
I got those in 2009 at the thrift store. They’re those paint your own ceramics which I originally spray painted white. Then I painted one red and recently I painted one aqua-that one can of aqua spray paint is getting a lot of use 🙂
“They” always say to group your collections for more impact – so that’s what I’ve done here.
I still have to put the other books back on all the shelves (I’m showing the only orderly shelves that I have right now 🙂 ) and figure out what to do with the three other display boxes!

I know a woman who would love your collection – she has dozens of roosters all over her kitchen. What a sweet collection!

They look very good up there. I’d never think to spray paint ceramic anything, though it sure looks cute and happy.
Brenda says
I love them!!! Especially the red one. And they look great against the white cabinet!

Love the way the roosters add a touch of whimsy to the room! Aren’t you proud that you snatched up those roosters when you did?
So what color is your one can of aqua spray paint?
I read your frugal home post and just realized I never left a comment. I think we all need to take the matter of frugality seriously. I like the things you’re doing! Little changes add up!

I like your rooster collection – it adds a bit of color and whimsey to the bookcases.
I would like a nice set of bookcases, but really no place to put them, so a while back I cleaned out books and magazines and solved by problem (would have rather had the bookcase).:)
Enjoy your evening.

Cute roosters! I love how you put things together…makes everything look so designer chic!
I may soon have a collection of real roosters…some of my surprise package pullets look suspiciously like little cockerels 🙂 I think yours will be much easier to care for!!!

love the aqua chickie! That is a cute collection and one I had not thought of, until now. Watch out chickies you may be coming home with me! Oh, and the shelves are great, you can never get enough storage if you ask me…;j

What a great way to show off your collection of Roosters and hens.
for other ideas for you boxes, how about some china tea cups, old canning jars and they can be filled with things or not, I like to collect old kitchen utensils, crock bowels, china tea cups, jello molds and I have them grouped around the kitchen.
Just bring out kitchen, craft, things you like to collect and put them in a group in one of your boxes.

Love all of the roosters! Having them in a group does draw your attention to them. What a great concept! You’ve done a wonderful job styling your shelves. It takes talent of which you have plenty!
Thanks so much for your kind words last week with our loss. It truly meant so much to me.

I really want to say that your collection is something to crow about, but that would be lame.
So I won’t.
Ha!
I really do love your collection. I love what you did with the variety in color, and I loved when they were white to begin with too.
Deanna says
I think they are cute in their bright colors!
Also with another can of spray paint they can be another color anytime you want them to be!
It’s fun to have them altogether!

I have a collection of roosters in my kitchen as well! I would never have thought of painting them though, but they look really good. Believe it or not, I have one of the same roosters as you have in your top picture!!

Love the way you displayed your rooster collection in the IKEA bookcases. We bought two IKEA Billy Bookcases to display my Christmas dishes. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy one’s collectibles. I just found your blog via Brenda’s Cosy Little House and look forward to visiting and becoming a follower.

I love how your rooster collection makes such a great impact. I also collect chicks/roosters. My friends and family always comment that I have too many (even after I edited and put half of them in storage). I believe you should be surrounded by the things you love in your home and not worry about what others think.
A couple of years ago I bought a variety of clear glass lidded jars and found that they very great for displaying seasonal items. In Autumn I fill them with acorns, candy corn and leaves. Christmas changes to pine cones and ornaments. Each season I fill them with beautiful objects and it makes the whole room look different with little effort and no cost since the fillers are things I already have. You can find the glass jars at Home Goods or T.J. Maxx, ect. best $18 home decor items I ever invested in and versitile too. You bookcases look fabulous & you have a great sense of design.
