Yes, I finally, finally have a red barn of my own! I started Phase I of this project last year (to paint the barn) and now it’s done and onto Phase II!

Here’s how it looked July 2008. I used to have yellow jasmine and pink roses growing up one side and we used to have a pond.
Here’s the barn painted red.
I just have to hang my barn star back up. I was thinking of painting it but it’s so rusty I think I’ll just leave it alone.
Phase II is to add a shrub/perennial border around the outside. I cut down the jasmine that I had growing because it was just too wild. I also cut down the pink climbing rose but it seems to be coming back. So far I planted a rhododendron because I don’t have any and I bought a Limelight Hydrangea (been wanting one of those). Not sure what else I’ll plant or how big I’m going to make it.
Isn’t that a pretty rhododendron!
Phase III is to create a seating area under the arbor and Phase IV is to build a pond for us to look at whilst sitting under said arbor 🙂 .
I showed you some photos of red barns back in January.
I”m so happy to have my very own red barn!

Congratulations on completion of phase I! I love that seating area — I can’t wait to see how you fix it up.

Love it! I love all barns, I really do, but crisp red and white barns are my all time favorite. They are so iconic and look beautiful sitting on the bright green grass.

Very neat, Manuela! So happy you finally got your red barn! Your plans sound good and I’m looking forward to seeing the border you plant. We had a pond at our old house, but a year before we sold we filled it in and planted grass. It wasn’t very big but was nice {when it was clean and clear} to look at and hear the fountain. Too many leaks led to frustration and we figured we be better off for resale anyway {especially for people with small kids because it was at ground level}.

That’s fun that you now have the “Red Barn” that you have been wanting! I like your plans for the seating, and pond…and for the plants. It will be really nice…and a place to enjoy!

Hi Manuela. Your barn looks really cute painted red. I love the sitting area you’ll have under the arbour. I can picture vines or roses climbing up the arbour too for shade. A beautiful spot to enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of iced tea on a hot day! Blessings, Pamela

Nothing like a sweet red barn. It looks perfect. I was wondering why you took down the pond feature… I know that there was a good and logical reason. It will be so nice to have a place to sit and enjoy a new pond.
Manuela says
Chipmunks made a hole in our liner so it was empty for a while then we were going to move so we filled it in. The next one we make will be with one of those rigid pre-formed liners.

I love your little red barn! Very clever that your making a seating area next to it. Is this in your back yard? If so, I’m envious of all the trees you have in back, making for some great privacy.

And it’s wonderful! Love it!

Manuela~ such a transformation!
I love it already. It will be fabulous when everything else is filled in just the way you want it.
I (being from TEXAS) LOVE THE STAR in all it’s rusty glory!

Gorgeous! I can’t wait to paint my shed barn red. It will probably be next year though before I get to that. But it will sure bring some cheery color to the yard. 🙂
Debbie says
It looks great. I remember phase I so I liked seeing phase II. I can just picture how pretty it’s going to look with the sitting area and pond. (And I hope you do leave the star thing rusty.I think that would be pretty against the red.)

You always amaze me with the amount of work that you get done, Manuela! Are you sure you don’t have little elves helping you? 🙂 The barn looks great painted in the traditional red. I’m sure you’ll have this area looking good in no time. You rhodie is gorgeous- not sure if they do well up here, but I do like them. ~ Sue

OH, this is so CUTE…and red is my favorite color, but of course my opinion is completely “unbiased” 🙂 🙂 🙂 There’s something about a red/white barn that is really Americana for me 😉 🙂 I think the arbor/seating area will look really nice once it’s all done!!! I remember my pastor has an arbor on his back porch…and it heed intertwining grapevines…which kept everyone cool…and fed, if they were hungry 🙂 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂 🙂 🙂
