Today’s Thrifty Treasures

By Manuela Williams

It’s time to show your thriftstore/yardsale treasures. Be sure to visit Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for more Today’s Thrifty Treasures participants. She is the Yardsale Queen and always finds some fun things!

I’ve been busy all week and only stopped into Goodwill once this week but I found a couple of nice things. I found those urns above for under $5. Somebody did me a favor and already painted them white! *all pictures enlarge when you click on them

I took a starfish and applied a tiny bit of hot glue to the back to adhere it to the urn. That way I can take it easily off at the end of summer.

I just sort of threw this display together because I have no AC and my whole house is freakin hot like you know where!! Yep it went out Saturday on one of the hottest days in Atlanta and no one can come out until Tuesday to even look at it! So say a little prayer that it can be fixed so I don’t have to pay for a whole new air conditioner!

I also found this really big tray! The design in the center is not my kind of thing so I think I’ll paint that out and put something else.

I thought this would be great for carrying our coffee out onto the screened porch in the morning. It’s nice and big with plenty of room for cups, an insulated coffee pot and a little creamer. That way we won’t have to get up and refill our cups from the coffeemaker in the kitchen. It should make our morning coffee ritual even more pleasant!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I'm still feelin' for ya on the AC thing, I know how hot it is, believe me. I'm sitting here hoping for a shower. There are sprinkles, but we need a LOT more than that.

Cute little urns you got & you know I love all the seashells. Hang in there!

I love what you did with those urns! You've definitely got an artistic eye. And that apothecary jar, with the birds in it? LOVE IT!! I hope your air conditioner just needs a shot of freon, and you don't need a whole new air conditioner. Stay Cool!

Oh, Manuella, so sorry about the AC. We live in Atlanta, too, and the heat is brutal lately! Great finds, though. Linda

Oh, gosh…no AC..I would double up and die, right there on the spot. It has been so hot out here in Texas that I do believe we couldn't live without an air conditioner. I am so dang spoiled!
    Shame on me…
    But…I LOVE being cool…!! 🙂
Hope you don't have to buy a new AC.
Love your urns and the tray. I have a thing about trays that I need to blog about soon.

I love what you did with the urns. In fact, the whole sumer display is really great. You have my sympathy on the A/C – the A/C went in my house last year. Wha a pain. 🙂

You got some great finds! I love your summer vingnette! The starfish looks fabulous on the urn!

Great finds Manuela! I can't believe you are even putting together vignettes with no AC. I would be one cranky girl. A couple of summers ago our AC was working but not very well. I kept complaining to my husband that would come home in the evening from an ICE COLD office. He actually accused me of having hot flashes. Finally we got the repair man out and sure enough it had to be fixed! No real point to me telling you that story except that I know where you're coming from. But girl, if you can still work those cute urns like that… snap. snap. snap. 🙂

I love the tray!! I have a lot of trays, but need one that is more sturdy… like the one you found. I have been bringing my coffee into the front room to where I don't have to get up and go in the kitchen 50 times in the morning. Is it that I am lazy??? Well, I think I will just say that I think it is more picturesque and romantic to have the whole display out in front of me. It might only be me, but I get a kick out of it looking all pretty. My kids appreciate it a bit, too. My friend down the street lost her AC on Saturday as well. They will have to replace theirs, but they are much more energy efficient now so it should pay for itself in about 3 years. It might cost money now, but it should save you money in the long run. We will pray for you!! At least today and tomorrow won't be as hot as it has been…!! ;0)

Love the urn transformation, Manuela! Hot glue will help change up anything, won't it? Hope you get a/c soon- I thought mine went out the other day- turns out that I only had to reset the thermostat- it was flashing. Thank goodness- cuz it was getting HOT! 🙂 Sue

Love the starfish on the urn & your little display you threw together. I feel for you on the no A/C. The only time of year I don't mind working is in the summer. Then someone else pays for the air conditioning. I'll send cool thoughts your way.
