A clean kitchen is a beautiful thing! All your appliances shine, and every surface is clean and ready to use at any moment! That’s why I’m pretty OCD about keeping my kitchen clean!
12 Things You’re Forgetting to Clean in Your Kitchen
1. Dishwasher + Oven Handles
Between food splatters and dirty hands, the handles to your oven and dishwasher can get dirty and nasty really fast! Make sure to give them a wipe down at least once a week, if not every day!
2. Stove/Oven Buttons and Dials
The buttons and dials on your oven/stove’s readout often get touched by hands dirty from cooking. So you should be wiping down your oven’s buttons and dials weekly!
3. Stove Drip Pans
It’s very likely that your stove drip pans are something you’re forgetting to clean in your kitchen! Which means that they’re probably pretty dirty with burned on food drippings. Rather than waiting until they’re really dirty and buying new ones, just clean the ones you have every week or so! 4. Sink Drain
To keep your kitchen sink from smelling less than pleasant, ensure that you clean your sink drain every week or two, especially if there’s a garbage disposal attached!
5. Cabinet Fronts
Yet another thing you’re likely forgetting to clean in your kitchen is your cabinet fronts! This means the doors and the surface in-between the doors. At least once a month, give your cabinetry a wipe down to rid it of dust, food splatters, and other dirt.
6. Cabinet Shelves
You should also be wiping down your cabinet shelves at least every few months, more frequently if the shelves hold boxed or bagged goods (especially messy goods, like flour). Doing this will remove random crumbs, and prevent the likelihood of you finding bugs in your cabinets!
7. Above and Under Cabinetry
If your kitchen has space above or under any cabinetry, make sure to clean it often, with a dusting rag and/or vacuum hose. Otherwise those areas will collect a lot of crumbs and dust!
8. Above and Under Fridge + Under Oven
Other often forgotten areas that you need to ensure you clean are above and under your refrigerator and under your oven. You’d be surprised how many crumbs get under those two appliances, and the top of your fridge easily gets covered with dust!
9. Stove Vent Filter
If you only clean your stove’s overhead vent filter once a year for spring cleaning, that’s probably not enough. To ensure it works as well as it can, clean your vent’s filter every few months.
10. Decor and Holders
Have you ever wiped down the random little decor pieces and food holders in your kitchen? Things like fruit baskets and little cute kitchen figurines can easily become dusty, or even sticky from food splatters!
11. Water Filtration Pitcher
It is very likely that one of the things you’re forgetting to clean in your kitchen is your water filtration pitcher (Brita, PUR, etc.). While these pitchers use their filters to automatically clean your water, nothing is automatically cleaning the insides or outsides of those pitchers! The outsides get dirty from food splatters and people touching them, and the insides get grimy from water sitting in them all day, every day. At least once a month, clean your water pitchers!
12. Dish Drying Rack
Don’t forget to clean your dish drying rack either! It can easily collect dirt, and may even grow mold if neglected for too long!
Do you usually forget to clean these areas?
