Scrap Lumber + Old Window = Pretty Windowbox

By Manuela Williams

My husband made me a pretty window box to use in my garden out of some scrap lumber we had and an old window frame.

For the time being it’s siting on the buffet in the screened porch and is holding some annuals that I plan on planting this week (it’s in the 80’s!).

He built a rectangle to the size of an old window frame we had. Then he screwed the frame into the box. I’m sure you could just buy a wooden window box and do the same thing.

I think I’m going to hang it on my barn when I finish painting it. I had to buy a new paint sprayer yesterday since my old one died. So soon that project will be done. YAY!!  Or I might hang it on my fence with all my other fence art 🙂

I mixed up the blue color myself from leftover paint I already had.

I love it and it’s a great upcycle of an old window! I might throw a couple of  morning glory seeds in it when I’m ready to plant it and have them wind around the frame since there’s no glass to stop it.

Oh, that’s so beautiful! I have a couple old window frames around the house. I might have to copy this idea!

That is so cute! Some morning glories twining around the frame would be great, I think. I don’t know if I can hold off buying some annuals much longer myself.

      Diana,

I went to HD yesterday and there were 2 dead looking tomato plants left! The herb and vegetable displays were practically wiped clean! They had very few perennials left also. I feel like if I wait another couple weeks there probably won’t be anything to buy!

Like it a lot! I have 2 pots of impatiens and 2 ferns so far. I figured if we have a cold snap, it would not be to much to move inside. Lots of people buying when I was there few days ago.

That is so great. I love old windows and the frames. I would love to see a picture when the plants are in full bloom. We are not buying flowers in New Jersey yet.

That buffet is adorable. You just inspired me. We have this big, brick box that houses our gas-only fireplace that sticks out onto our patio. I’m going to hang some plates and a mirror similar to your’s above your buffet. I need to hit up Goodwill for some plates. The Morning Glory would look so cute in your new windowbox.

Thank you! It was an old buffet I used to use inside. I did the mosaic on the top and painted it yellow a few years ago. I like your idea to dress up that brick box!

What a sweet Hubby you have! I love the idea of the vines climbing around the frame. It’s warm here too. I bought some tomatoes and peppers yesterday but I’m kind of afraid to plant them yet.

OH, this is really beautiful. You know, I’d be tempted to leave it just the way it is. It’s got a beautiful, worn look, like it’s been in the family for decades…that blue is the perfect shade…and does so well with those pretty pink flowers 🙂 🙂 What a treasure 🙂 🙂 Love and hugs from the ocean shores of Califronia, Heather 😉

That is really sweet, I love window boxes. A great use for the old window and I love the color that you made. I mix my own paint colors all of the time, makes it more personal. It was about 75 degrees here today!!!

Adorable! Love the color and wouldn’t the morning glories just set that off! Now you’ll have to show us again when it is placed. You and your hubby make a great team!
