Project Procrastinator -The After Party!

By Manuela Williams

Today is the day we’re suppose to show our “after” projects for Melissa’s Procrastinator Party! Well I have a good excuse for not doing my project – we’ve only had 2 consecutive days with no rain so I couldn’t paint the checkerboard pattern on my deck. But…..I have a number of pending projects so I picked another.

Some of you may remember when I painted my buffet yellow I said that I’d like to mosaic the top…Well I did it!

I used what I had. The only thing I purchased was a container of white grout. I had mosaic pieces because a few years ago I was going to do a birdbath and I had started a project covering concrete edgers (which I soon tired of)!

Here’s my project!

It would have been better to draw it out in the beginning especially in doing the circles. The center one is a big wonky because I just started gluing down pieces without having any sort of guide.

It’s not perfect. I learned a lot while doing it. I didn’t plan out what I was going to do ahead of time. I knew I was going to do a big focal point in the center but the rest I just made up as I went along.

I think it came out pretty good for never having done this before! Sometimes you just have to go for it!

It looks so pretty. I think you should pat yourself on the back! And the wonkiness of the 1st circle is adorable. If it bothers you, put a large bowl there!

You’ve inspired me — especially with the concrete garden stones. I want to do some stepping stones, especially one of my beautiful Colombian student who will be going home in another month.

    May 14, 2009 at 1:02 pm

It turned out wonderful Manuela! And like I tell my husband, mosaic is an art form…it is not suppose to be perfect! A little wonky makes it real!

  23. Nina Knox says

This looks great. I’ve always wanted to try a mosaic. I keep collecting broken china. Now you’ve inspired me. The “wonky” is good. When I do something that’s not quite perfect, I tell people I did it on purpose so you could tell it was hand made.

    May 14, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Manuela, I think you did a pretty good job. I can’t believe it was your first time doing that. Even Penny says it looks great. Congrats on accomplishing this, but then again, YOU pretty much can do anything you want. Have a great Thursday. Take care.
