New Dishes For My China Cabinet

By Manuela Williams

What can I say…I have an addiction to pretty china! I’ve been collecting this Homer Laughlin Eggshell Georgian china for a while now and I decided that I finally had enough to do my living room china cabinet with it. I did mix in some Johnson Brothers and milk glass pieces in.

I actually had a pink HL plate hanging on the inside of our privacy fence for years! You can bet I brought it in!

I prefer the blue. It’s s soft aqua/robbin’s egg blue . This is all Eggshell Georgian but it comes in slightly different patterns .

Don’t you love it when the inside of a  tea cup  has a pattern!

I stacked a few cups inside the wire candle holder that I got a while back (which I use as a wire cloche). You can just see one of the pink HL saucers underneath the tea cups (and my one pink tea cup in the middle).

Here are a few more details from my  china cabinet.

It’s hard to believe that these used to just be everyday type dishes! They really don’t make them like this anymore!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I love this china! It’s so soft and delicate isn’t it? You’re right. They don’t make china like that now for every day use. You have a beautiful collection and it looks great in your hutch. Enjoy the holiday weekend. Blessings, Pamela

Such a pretty pattern, Manuela! I’m glad you were able to display them and show them to us. I love the teacups and saucers. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Beautiful china. Love that soft blue and the delicate pattern with the gold scroll work.

I am very familiar with that pattern. I used is many times in my mosaics. When I decided to close my studio down, I sold it at my garage sale. If I would have known you were collecting it, I would have given it to you!

Well darn!!! I didn’t know you sold off your china!

Those are gorgeous! I especially like any china with that French blue in it.

I have some pretty pastels in my china cabinet but so far I’m keeping the Friendly Village on the hutch shelves. It goes so well with the colors in the living room, more of an Americana looks than elsewhere in the house.

I thought of you today when I was at the nursery and was looking through arugula plants. There was one that obviously could be used as two or three mini plants! We’re to get to 39 tonight and while I planted the flowers in their deck containers, I didn’t want to plant anything in the raised bed until tomorrow so I’ll see then if I get two or three mini plants from it. I’m also planting seeds to experiment which grows better. If arugula is like the lettuce I’ve grown, I actually had more success with seeds.

This china is so pretty…I love the teacups with the flowers inside. I think that you’d love the mission store in my area….they must have 20 sets of different china on any given day ! : )

Very pretty and I’m not at all familiar with them. Perfect for spring and summer.

Your china is wonderful! I can spot Homer Laughlin pieces a mile away! I always want to take them home with me. The Johnson Brothers dessert plate caught my eye, too. Oh, if I only had more room!

Your cabinet looks wonderful, I love seeing all of the vintage items mixed in, especially that wonderful old scale. Your dishes are beautiful, people used to love using beautiful things every day, I guess. Your wire cloche is especially pretty in there!

Homer Laughlin is one of my favorite china/pottery makers. I can spot a piece at ten paces, lol. I DO love a surprise flower in my coffee cup as it happens. Isn’t that a lovely little touch? And yes, I’m stunned to think these were everyday dishes. I remind myself of that when I find a piece that is especially crazed and worn looking.

There’s nothing more fun than changing up a china cabinet. I love how yours turned out. The china is very pretty, love the old scale and the tea-cups are so cute.

These are just beautiful and look perfectly at home in your china cabinet. I never knew Homer Laughlin made china other than the Fiesta Ware (which I have and love), until we became the proud caretakers of my MIL’s Empire Green china by Laughlin. I just love the delicate style of this type of china. If you want to see my collection, you can go here:
