DIY Saturday: Painted Concrete Patio

By Manuela Williams

Happy Weekend Everyone! On my long, long, long to do list is to paint my big concrete slab patio that’s under my screened porch. I could just go with one color but I think a pattern looks so much nicer. Here’ s a great tutorial on how to paint a checkerboard pattern on a concrete slab.

Great idea! I’ve been wanting to do something with my concrete patio too. Will check it out. Thanks!

Thanks Debbie – yes, I really want to do it too. But I have to re-stain my deck first 🙂

We have a concrete slab patio too, but I’m not ambitious enough to paint it. 😉 I just go with an outdoor rug instead. Good luck to you!

LOL! I painted my deck in a checkerboard pattern smaller than the one in the tutorial and it wasn’t too bad. Thank goodness for rollers on broom handles! 🙂

I really like that and it would sure be prettier than gray concrete, but painting a slab sounds like it could be torture for your knees. I bet you will figure out a way to do it soon.

Well I would use a roller on a long stick to do the actually painting. The taping off might be a problem but I might be able to talk “other people” 🙂 into doing that part for me.

I once saw on a blog a patio painted with a brick design. I would never have guessed from the picture that it was a faux finish!
I’m sure yours is going to look fabulous as you have such a creative touch!

Do you know I have a brick shaped sponge that I bought about 10 years ago because I was going to stamp a brick pattern on our front door slab. I don’t think I’ll ever get around to that project! 🙂

The closest I’ve come to this is painting a checkerboard pattern on my dollhouse’s front porch. Does that count?

LOL Claudia! I wish things worked liked that!! Then I’d get myself a dollhouse and count cleaning it as good and done – hehe!
