To be successful there are certain homemaking disciplines that one must partake in every single day. If you want your house to run as smooth as possible, then these 7 daily disciplines are for every homemaker.
7 Daily Disciplines for Every Homemaker
1. Make Your Bed
Who knew that something as simple as making your bed could keep you disciplined as a homemaker! Making the bed is such a small task, but there are many positives to making your bed each morning.
Making your bed is sort of that “accomplished task” of the day feeling. It’s something you can do that is quick, but very satisfying. This daily discipline just gets you off on the right foot every single day.
2. Get Dinner Started
Is there anything worse than it being 5 P.M. and you don’t know what you’re making for dinner? One daily discipline for every homemaker is to get dinner started.
A slow cooker is an excellent tool to help you get more dinners started earlier. And if you’ve prepared freezer meals you can just dump them into your slow cooker and go on with your day! It doesn’t get much easier than that!
3. Theme Your Days
Another daily discipline for every homemaker is to theme your days. Back in the day, homemakers used to have certain days in which they did certain chores. Monday may have been laundry day, Tuesday may have been errand day, etc. It just depended on the day and the homemaker.
When you theme your days as a homemaker, you get a lot more done! Whatever you choose to do, just know that giving your days a theme is a very strong discipline. The more you stick to the original schedule, the better!
4. Get Dressed from Head to Foot
As a homemaker, it’s sometimes easy to stay in our pajamas all day. It’s comfortable and you’re just at home anyways. However, a great daily discipline is to get into the habit of getting dressed from head to foot.
When you wake up in the morning, make it a point to get dressed. You don’t need to be dressed in anything fancy, it just needs to not be pajamas. Just getting dressed will make you feel good and like you can tackle anything!
5. Think About the Bigger Picture
Being a homemaker may be what season of life you’re in right now and that’s great. But I always like to think of the bigger picture.
Right now, I’m a homemaker, so how can I make money from my homemaking skills? Every homemaker should have the discipline of looking at the bigger picture. Don’t just think of what can be done in your home, but how you can make money using the skills you have.
Here are a few ideas:
Cooking for people who are too busy to cook
Creating homemade cleaners to sell
Offering laundry services to those who are too busy to do their laundry
Teach language or music lessons (you could even do this online)
Do surveys for money
I think you get the point here. Of course, if you don’t need the money or this isn’t a good season of life for you to be seeking extra money, then don’t worry about it.
6. Spend Time Thinking & Meditating
As a homemaker, you’re usually on the go a lot. However, one daily discipline to keep on the forefront of your mine is thinking and meditating.
Find a quiet space in your home. If you can spend 5-10 minutes meditating or thinking about life, then good for you! Having time to sit down, think, and plan is important to any homemaker’s life. If you’re new to meditation, you can find good short guided meditations on YouTube and there are also a lot of great free meditation apps for smartphones!
7. Get Plenty of Rest
Staying up late and getting up early will make you tired in a flash. So it’s important to get plenty of rest as a homemaker, you certainly can’t run yourself ragged.
One daily discipline that a lot of homemakers should follow is getting plenty of rest. Go to bed early and get up early. You can even go to bed late, but at least allow yourself time to sleep in.
Rest is an important component to being successful in life. Are you getting the rest that you need?
So those are my top 7 daily disciplines for every homemaker. If you follow these, you’re sure to have wonderfully productive days!

I am recently retired and so very ready…I’m tired of being exhausted and not having the energy to do things I enjoy: cooking, quilting, walking, gardening, reading
I am thoroughly enjoying myself. This is just my 4th week of not going to paid-employment.
1. I exercise 5d/week…..before it gets hot! (100 today)
2. I’m in my garden every day to pull a few weeds, deadhead flowers, and pick any produce that is ready.
3. I read daily. Blogs and library books (I haven’t paid for books for 15y, as I am a prolific reader and it got super expensive.)
4. Cooking dinner! I have it almost ready when DH gets home from work. I love to cook and it’s wonderful to have the energy and desire to cook rather than spending large amounts of $ being served.
I haven’t started any ritual days yet. I’m sure I will but right now, I’m enjoying doing what I feel like doing in the moment. 🙂

I never heard them called theme days but I guess I’ve been doing it for years Mondays are wash all bedding and clean bedrooms, Tuesdays are a deep clean bathroom, I do a once over every day so it doesn’t take much, Wednesdays are clean the kitchen including frig and oven,Thursdays are the living room and dining room they are connected and I have a rule just because it is a flat surface doesn’t mean it’s a landing zone and Fridays I menu plan and grocery shop, Saturdays are a general pick up day, Sundays are saved for the Lord. The one big problem I have is getting dressed, I normally shower and dress after my housework. I need to work on that because I do feel better cleaned and dressed.
