Creative Ways To Use A Doily

By Manuela Williams

There’s something about doilies that I like even though they are kind of old fashioned. Maybe that’s what I like about them. They’re very Granny Chic! Right now I have a yellow doily from Michael’s on top of some fabric covered books and a lamp on top of it.  I’ve made a paper doily wreath and I also recently decorated some pumpkins with doilies! That’s just a few ways that I’ve used doilies in my  home.

Have some cute doilies, but don't know what to do with them? Why not try doing one of these 11 cute ideas for decorating with doilies!

Here a some inspiring ways that you can re-purpose an ordinary doily and make something decorative for your home.

Such fun ideas for doilies. I have to say my favorite is the doily runner. I have some odd doilies here and there to make one.

Lots of great ideas, Manuela. I’ve been looking at doilies when I see them at yard and estate sales. I have been picking up some pretty ones to use in my pillows and Christmas stockings.

those are all great ideas! I love the one from A Beautiful Mess, I need a couple of old lamp shades to do that for two vintage lamps that I picked up at a garage sale.

    Manuela,

Every one of these doily (re)creations is absolutely ADORABLE! What have I got from your beautiful exhibit of doilies today? That yes, they are old-fashioned, (that’s why I love them), and when used in such interesting ways, they are also versatile and modern, but always pretty and elegant!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

Oh, thank you so much for this! I received several handmade doilies after my Grandma passed away and… I’m not really a doily person. So repurposing them would be awesome. Thank you!

I love all those ideas – and even though I’m not crafty, I think some of them I might actually be able to do! Another great idea I’ve seen done with doilies is to use them for stencils – you can put a doily on top of a cake and use confectioners’ sugar to “dust” the design on top of your cake. You can also use the doily as a stencil for spray paint.

Clever uses for doilies. My favorite is the lampshade, but I’d never ruin a good doily by using it that way again.
