15 Ways to Re-Purpose A Headboard

By Manuela Williams

I have some pieces of furniture I’m not sure what I’m going to do with since I’m turning my guest bedroom into an office/craft space for myself.  I have this extra headboard and I don’t know if I just want to donate it or re-purpose it somehow.

a round up of 6 fun ways to repurpose a headboard

So I thought I’d see what ideas were out there for upcycling a headboard.

15 Projects to Re-Purpose a Headboard

  • Paint is Important! Be sure to buy the right kind of paint to make your project last longer. This is even more important if you are going to have it outside in the elements!
  • Use Wood Filler. Some headboards are going to have holes in them from the rest of frame. If that bothers you, you can use wood fillers before you paint to get a smooth finish.
  • Sanding may be Required. You may have to sand the varnish off the headboard before you begin your project. This will help the paint stick and give you a better-finished product.

1. Welcome Sign

I’m so glad you didn’t mind! It’s such a cute sign and really shows the fun things you can do with these lone headboards.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Great ideas, Manuela! I love the signs and the benches. The local antique mart here has a couple of them made into benches.

LOL! I know! Now I wish I had more! I got this one at Goodwill years ago and I always see headboards there – I may just have to get another one since there are so many fun ideas out there on how to re-purpose them.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you Melanie! Well I figured since I had it I might as well see what you could do with it in case I didn’t want to just donate it to Goodwill (which is where I got it in the first place 🙂 )

There is not one idea that you posted that I didn’t really love. I must be drawn to them. I think my favorite is when it’s used to make a bench, but that would probably be above my pay grade. I love the signs for the garden.

I like them all, but I favor the bench….

  12. Deanna says

I like them all but the signs, and the yellow one with hooks I really like!

The bench is great too though….

I think it would either go on the fence in the yard with a sign on it. Or in a corner of a garden.

I have the exact same bed in storage as the one made into a bench…how nice to know that I’ll definitely love the finished results!
