Hi everyone! I have a picture filled vegetable garden tour for you today. I took tons of photos since this will probably be my last year of gardening here since we will be listing our house in a few weeks. I thought I’d share a few with you. This is very bittersweet…I’m ready to move but I’d like to take my yard with me 🙂

I didn’t plant as much as I usually do since I think we won’t really be around to harvest much of it. I also got a late start because I had some other things to finish up (like my deck). So the garden is not as far a long as it normally would be this time of year.
My Vegetable Garden
I’m getting lots of cantaloupes this year! You never know what will do well 🙂 Still no zucchini! I always laugh when people say that zucchini is the easiest thing to grow!
I’m not growing many tomatoes this year so I put them all in this bed with some marigolds, basil and micro greens (at the other end). The tomatoes in the front are romas. If you want to know how I plant my tomatoes you can check out my post here.
I moved my potting bench into the garden when I did a back door area makeover. My daughter and I built this paver patio one summer.
I planted a few things in pots so I could take some veggies with me.
My husband built me this potting bench out of salvaged wood ( link here). It’s really wonderful – so large and it has a sink! There’s a bucket underneath the sink to catch water – which is great not only when rinsing vegetables but also when it rains.
I only planted this one eggplant this year.
I have lots of different peppers. Which I companion planted with eggplant and cucumber in one raised bed.
The beginning of a bean teepee. This first planting didn’t grow so these are ones I replanted a few weeks back. There’s a pumpkin plant in that bed as well.
I also have a herb bed. I grow my most used herbs in a container on my deck (link here) so they’re easy to get when I’m cooking . The bed in the garden has mint, dill, thyme, and lemon balm.
There’s also one bed devoted to greens – swiss chard, 2 types of kale and some lettuce.
The compost area.
A seating area. You can see more of that in this post (link here)
And there are lots of flowers!
I like to just let the flowers that pop up stay where they are.
That white puffy flower is actually a carrot that popped up outside this bed gone to seed. So pretty!
I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the garden. I’m going to be doing a video tour of the garden in a week or so that I’ll post to YouTube but I’ll let you all know when that is ready.
Have a great weekend!

Nice garden! I didn’t think we’d be here to harvest our garden, but looks like we’ll finish out the season.
What are your upside down clay pots on sticks?
Manuela Williams says
So I don’t poke my eye out when I bend over into a bed! The sticks are supports for the vegetables.
Glenda says
You have accomplished a lot, and looks and sounds like a nice variety of veggies to harvest even tho you scaled back due to the anticipated move. Lots of pretty flowers!
Enjoy your weekend!

Your garden and yard area is so pretty. You are really going to enjoy all the fruits of your labor. Is your house on the market right now? Seems like I remember you saying you were going to do that again soon.

My Basil leaves look burned – how often do you water your basil ? I have it in a pot on my deck
Thanks and very nice garden
Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow says
I always love to visit your garden! It’s amazing! 🙂
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
It’s good to take pictures, too, Manuela, so you can look back at your garden once you have moved. I’m sure it will be sad for you to leave it behind. I had mixed feelings ~ I loved our gardens but the maintenance was getting to me working full-time.
Manuela Williams says
Yep, I took loads of pictures! We’re going to start looking for a new place in a week or so and I keep going back and forth on the yard size. I think smaller house but big yard would be good then I think, no both need to be smaller since I want to start spending my time doing other things besides yardwork and housework! Decision decisions 🙂
Angie says
What a shame to leave it all behind! But I sure understand. My husband and I are in the process of trying to decide whether it’s time to move for the same reasons. We’ve been here almost 20 years, and there are so many memories. But also a lot of work. I love your blog and all your great ideas
Betty says
Your garden is so beautiful. I know you will have one just as nice at your new home.
Cindy says
Very pretty garden! for some reason I love looking at vegetable gardens as we drive around, so thank you:)

Love your garden. Great job!

I love your garden. That’s how I wanted mine to look like. This year I only plated flowers. Next year I will plant vegetables again. What did you put under the mulch to keep the weeds down? I was going to put down gravel but I like the look of mulch better. Thanks for the inspirations.
Manuela Williams says
Thank you Elaine! Originally I put down cardboard but that was when I first started the garden. So I’ve had several years of mulch to suppress the weeds. We had some trees chopped down and they chipped them on site which is what I used as mulch for a few years and it was great! I also used hay a few years when I couldn’t get wood chips. I still get weeds but there aren’t that many that I can’t pull a few every time I’m in the garden.

Looks like your garden is doing great! I will be getting plenty of zucchinis in the next couple of weeks but no cantaloupes here, lol!
Manuela Williams says
LOL! Well I’ll trade you!

It’s me vs. the squash beetles for zucchini this year. So far I’m winning–picked my first zuke yesterday! I’m glad you found the time to plant so you can enjoy some fresh veggies and inspire some new owners–way to go!
Manuela Williams says
Oh I had squash vine borers last month. Dug those little suckers out of my squash, pumpkin and melons. My squash still hasn’t recovered. Well I thought it best to show what you could do with the raised beds in case someone isn’t a gardener.
Brenda Nuland says
Friends were walking with us through our tiny raised bed garden, remarking how gorgeous it looks. I told them pretty much every idea there I stole from you! 🙂
That late May frost/freeze we had is affective some gardens here. My tomatoes appeared to recover but then three of the four plants have struggled. I’ve hard some say their zucchini did not do well. I had to replant the bush beans but the vine beans flourished and they were planted at the same time. Go figure…
Your garden is GORGEOUS.
Manuela Williams says
🙂 YOUR garden is gorgeous! We were in triple digits for a while and it was too hot for my tomatoes. Of course, now we’re getting rainy days and they don’t like that either!
Deanna says
Your garden looks wonderful!
It feels bittersweet to me too, that you’ll be moving. We like to see all the great projects and gardens at your home. I guess we’ll all be on the journey with you when you move!
Pamela says
I’m loving it.
I really like the cucumber vine trellis that appears to be hinged at the top. Did you make that? We really need something like that for our cucumbers.
Have you found a new home yet? I hope its perfect for a new garden.
I love your carrot plant all flowered out. I thought it was a Queen’s Anne Lace which I love. They’re a beautiful gift of nature.
Manuela Williams says
After searching everywhere for one, I found it at Lowe’s. They were they only ones that had a variety of trellises in different widths. I know, that carrot was a nice surprise. I’ve never let them go to seed before and they’re so pretty!
No we haven’t found a new place yet. We are in our final week of getting our house ready to list next week. So next week we’ll start looking!

Wow, great tour!
