Faux taxidermy has become a really popular trend in decorating the past couple of years! At first I didn’t like it at all. I mean, it’s a select group of people that embrace the whole animal head on the wall look. But after a while they sort of grew on me (the fake ones).

I think it’s because the fake ones are usually white , white with a color or even decoupaged – so they’re not life like at all. Now I see them more as modern art – as sculptures.
I started with one that I bought at Target last year (see how mainstream they are) and now I’ve added two more small ones to make a unique focal point on this wall with the mirror.
The two I added started out as sort of black/bronze and I admit they looked a bit creepy to me! But a few passes with some white satin spray paint and they fit right in with the one from Target.
I love how the mirror on this wall reflects the living room!
They are a bit quirky but so is the rest of the house! I think I’m going to make a flower garland to hang around the stag head!

It looks as tho maybe the two new smaller heads were meant to be used as hooks. Definitely much prefer the white paint on them, look like sculptures, not in your face dark. Don’t think I could handle looking at black/bronze all the time. Good call. A banner or wreath would be summery looking on bigger head. Love that table with pitcher of flowers and the lamp, very nice on their own. Are those tulips out of your yard? Gorgeous tulips. I have thing for lamps and especially vintage pitchers, (among a few too many other things).lol

Yes, I think they were originally meant to be used as hooks. LOL – yes – they definitely needed to be painted! I’m thinking a flower garland on the big one. I had a red pom ball garland on it during Christmas.

I generally don’t care a lot for the heads, but really do like yours. I definitely think the darker ones are kind of eerie looking. Painting them white was a great idea. I had a client who had a hunting lodge and had a huge deer head in the den. I put a floral garland around it’s neck and they always had me come back and decorate for Christmas – yep, the deer head got a Christmas garland a red nose! They loved it!

Thank you! I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea 🙂 I’ll have to remember the red nose for Christmas. I’m definitely doing a flower garland next rainy afternoon!
