I would like your opinion on something. If you read in a blog reader service please click back to the blog in order to take the survey.
Brenda and I were talking about blogging the other day, I told her 2 surprising facts about my blog.
Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.
1. Out of the thousands of people that come to my blog each day 75-80% are new. Every. Day.
They aren’t regular readers and have never been here at all. That’s a HUGE percentage of my traffic. So a very small percentage are regular readers.
2. My most viewed posts have nothing to do with the decoration of my home or my DIY projects.
Getting paid to blog is a little different than blogging for fun, so I do take these factor into consideration when planning my posts.
I’d love it if you would take the survey below. You can choose as many answers as you like. The poll is confidential so I don’t know who chooses what. Feel free to leave additional observations in the comments if you like. You can leave a short comment in the last question of the poll.
The poll will be open for a week and I’ll post the results.
Thanks!

Manuela, I have noticed the same thing in my stats! In fact, my most often viewed post is titled “pretty dresses” and is the most inane thing I have ever written (which is saying a lot) lol. It must be a term that is searched a lot.
Stacey says
Gosh I’m surprised there aren’t a greater number of regular readers. You’re stuck with me!
Doreen@househoneys says
Manuela, I find it very interesting that thousands view your blog each day and most are new! That’s a very high number, and must mean you have a fairly high google page rank.
My most viewed post is also one in which I have never gotten any comments on! How’s that for strange?!
Manuela says
Doreen,
It is isn’t it?
My page rank is good, not excellent, but I’ve been blogging a long time. Pinterest is a bigger referrer than Google for me at this point.
My top 10 posts are normally posts that don’t have anything to do with decorating or diy – consistently. It’s rare that a decor or diy post shows up in the top 10 or even top 20.
I was just curious as to why regular readers come here and mostly it’s decor so far. But regular readers are a small percentage compared to my unique visitors.
Meadowsweet Cottage says
Where do all those unique visitors come from anyway? They’re welcome, but I love my regular readers who feel like friends!
Manuela says
I love my core group of readers too! Many people have been with me since I began blogging 6-7 years ago. Blogging has changed a huge amount since then. But when it’s 30 people versus 3000 (not the real numbers but the spread) then it’s something to take note of. Because my core group of readers like my decorating posts but my daily traffic is not here for that. So I’m trying to figure out how much decor stuff I really should be posting.
Most of my traffic comes from Pinterest, compilation websites that feature my posts, other bloggers that feature me, Google, link parties, people that share posts on facebook, twitter etc. These are not decorating posts or even look at my garden posts. These are informative posts and round-up type posts.
It’s not email subscribers who click over or RSS subscribers that click over to the blog.
The people that click on the Google Ads are unique visitors and the people that give me my pageviews which is how I get paid by BlogHer are unique visitors.
Some people have the reverse, they have a core group that gives them most of their page views and small percentage that comes from other sources.

I don’t even know how to check stats. Probably a good thing.
I mainly come here because I love your style. The other stuff is gravy on the taters.

Although I took the survey and clicked on a few items, my reason for coming back is YOU. 🙂
Most of my traffic consists of regular readers and only a little over 1,000 a day. But I figure for my type of blog that is not bad and I don’t do anything to draw readers… must try Pinterest for that.
I’ve mentioned before that I don’t get a lot of comments compared to the number of readers. I am always amazed at the number of comments Vee gets but she is SO good about commenting on other peoples blogs.

I come to your blog to see whatever you are doing:) IT is always nice to visit with you! Have a blessed weekend, HUGS!

I would call myself a regular reader but not daily. I first found your blog through Brenda at Cozy Little House and came over to admire all the lovely decor. This was back when I’d first started blogging over at Homespun. I probably come over about once a week, sometimes twice, to see what you are up to 🙂
But I don’t subscribe, and I don’t follow. I just either come in through Google or by typing your address directly into the browser. Not sure if people like me make that seem as if they are new or not…but maybe it will help, I don’t know 🙂 I was most interested ( ENTHRALLED & AMAZED would be better words 🙂 in your gardening posts and your garden and outdoor posts this summer. So I checked the gardening box since I’d say those were my favorites though I read alot of other ones over time as well 🙂

Thanks for leaving such a detailed comment! I appreciate the info. So glad you like my gardening posts because I love to garden! I bought this property for the land not the house! Interestingly, gardening was people’s second least favorite category. Which I don’t understand because I post a lot about my garden and always have. 🙂 Next week I have a fall garden post coming up!
