Cute Ways to Upcycle Shutters.
Some of you may have noticed that I have some old chippy shutters propped up against the fence in my post on my upcycled garden shed. I got those at a neighborhood garage sale last year and I’m not sure what to do with them. After looking around, I gathered together a few ideas. So here are 15 Awesome Ways To Repurpose Old Shutters!

15 Ways To Repurpose Old Shutters
Here are some tips to consider before starting to repurpose old shutters you may have laying around:
- Gather several beforehand. Several of these projects require more than one shutter, so gather several before you decide to complete any projects.
- Sand before you paint. If you don’t like the color of your shutters or if you are using mismatched ones, be sure to sand them before you paint them. They may have a lot of wear and tear and grime to get rid of before you add a fresh coat of paint. But if your shutters are very old (like pre-1980s), then you may want to skip this step, as they may have been painted with lead paint.

I love old wood shutters, too, Manuela! I’ve been thinking of getting a small to mid size pair to just hang over the side tables in the guest room and I could tuck family pictures into the slats. I love the planter idea you show above.

I love all of these ideas but I do have favorites. I love the one that is a plant holder and the one as the window box. I just love old shutters, windows and doors. We just have no place close to find those treasures. Very creative.

I have to admit that I didn’t think of this, but thought it was genius when I saw it..small shutters used as earring holders (earrings with shepherd hooks)…just put them upside down! Attach them any way you wish to a wall etc, or as I saw them, with piano hinges between them so that they fold…looks wonderful and works really well!

Those are all very creative ideas, I love shutters, if I found some though, I would want to put them on my house, I think that would give my house some curb appeal, something it is in bad need of.

I love the hall tree idea! We replaced our louvered closet doors in our bedroom and spare room last year and gave them to a friend. There is still one set in the den that needs to be replaced and now I know what to re-purpose them as! Thank you Manuela 🙂

Love all the shutter ideas! My daughter made a shallow, open cabinet/bookcase with some. The shutters were the sides, she added some shelves, a back and crown molding around the top. It turned out pretty cute. Also love your little tool shed! So handy! Mimi

I love all of the shutter ideas. I have actually been looking for some to use in my bedroom over our bed. I want to add a piece of iron scrolling to them. I think we actually have a little free time to flea market this weekend, so maybe I’ll find what I am looking for!
Thanks for sharing all of the ideas!

What fun ideas! We used to have shutters on our house but took them down when we put on vinyl siding years ago. They went to the dump!! Oh how I wish I had just one of them. Along with the white picket fence we used to have too! What was I thinking???? 🙂
