I thought I’d share some of the books that I’m currently reading that may interest you.

“An English Cottage Year” is such a charming little book. Filled with pretty little illustrations, poems, recipes and tips such as “How to Trim a Hat”. Here’s a page about honeybees.
I’m such an Austenphile and therefore can’t wait to read “In The Garden with Jane Austen”! I’ve looked at all the beautiful garden photos already but am saving the actually reading of the book for next week when we’re supposed to have rain almost every day. A cozy rainy day spent with my new Austen book and a cup of coffee or tea sounds like a perfect day!
I found the reading girl print for 99 cents at Goodwill and had to bring her home. I’m not sure where she’ll wind up but I thought she was perfect to include in todays post.
Great print, Manuela! That would probably find its way to my bookshelf; it’s so fitting that it is around books. I just used some of my Amazon reward points and ordered the first from a new series {to me anyway} I think its Death of a Scone. I like mysteries and this seems to be something along the lines of those cozy English type {like Miss Marple} that I love.
Good books there! Remember in the one episode of Larkrise to Candleford where Queenie thought Twister had died and she “told” the bees?
I’ve been reading the book Larkrise to Candleford off and on, and it’s really like a sociological or anthropological monograph of village and hamlet life of the late nineteenth century — amazing sociological and historical detail.
I’ve got my fingers crossed for rain and cooler weather here, too.
I’ve not read the Larkrise to Candleford book, but I’m watching the series. It is such an endearing story and group of characters. My husband and I feel as though we are part of the communites. And I do remember Queenie talking to the bees when she thought Twister had died. Netflix has the series. Do consider watching it after you’ve completed the book, you won’t regret it.
And, if you’ve not seen the BBC Doc Martin, it too is a wonderful series…you must watch more than one to get the true feel of the community. It is a delight. Also available on Netflix.
The reading girl, what a wonderful find! I’ve been reading like crazy lately trying to keep up with reviewing. Just finished a great memoir, Slow Love, by Dominique Browning, who was at House & Garden mag when it folded.

The girl reading is one of my favorite paintings. The first time I decorated my bedroom as a teenager I had a copy of that painting. I wish I still had it! The books all look very interesting too.

Oh Manuela, your “Portrait of a Young Girl Reading” (painted by Fragonard sp?) is perhaps my favorite work of art. It mesmerized me when I first set eyes on it (many years ago!) at the age of nine. I was sent to spend the summer with family friends and they graciously took me to the National Gallery in Washington DC (and many other places 🙂 where this painting was/is exhibited! I was allowed to chose only one post card as a souvenir and, yes, the reading girl was my choice…I still have her/it!!! I supposed I identified with her…and now you. 😉

The Reading Girl is my favorite painting. I have the same print hanging above my bookshelf. So appropriate.
When I was small, my mother had a picture of the girl reading. Seeing yours brings back memories of my childhood.
