We have been very busy around here. A good kind of busy, where we’ve taken our time doing projects and enjoyed working together as a family. Not crazy busy. Anyhoo, I thought I’d update you all on the progress that has been made on some projects.
The fence is done!

It needs to be painted and I have some finials to add to the posts but it is done done done! Whew! That was a job in this heat!
My daughter and husband made the double gate. I think I mentioned before that the fence might wind up being octagonal and I wasn’t kidding! Can’t say we were very particular about where we put the posts since the ground was rock hard and in the end the two end posts just didn’t line up. But we actually like the gate on a diagonal like that – so it all worked out. Anyway, it doesn’t have to be perferct to do the job. I do think I’m going to add a simple arbor.
The chair slipcover is coming along.
I have to do the band that goes around on the bottom and the skirting too. Oh and make the binding to use on the arms etc. Oh yeah… have to do the seat cushion and that needs binding too.
I guess I’m not as done as I hoped thought I was. I have decided to baste it together first. I think it’ll be easier to make adjustments that way? Wish me luck! I’ve never even used the zipper foot on my machine before and supposedly that’s what you use to make the binding.
The new bedroom has walls and new electrical has been added.
We started priming and caulking today! I had some nice big crown molding installed so all that needs to be caulked and all the million little nail holes too!
Buzzzzzzzz…..

It’s all looking good, Manuela! I like that you are using a window door for her room on the lower level…helps with light flow.

Wow! You have been so productive! Isn’t is wonderful to see all these things come together? In my case, it always seems like it gets worse before it gets better! LOL I really love the fence! Nice! You need a darling straw hat for the gate… 🙂

Looks like you have accomplished a lot – wish I could say the same here.
Great photo of the bee on the flower.

Yes, I would say you do have a few projects underway. I love your fence esp. with the small slats. Your garden is lovely. But now that slipcover – that is wonderful. I have slipcover envy. Good Job!
Thanks for sharing, Kathy

That fence looks great! Can’t wait to see it with finials. I got some cute cute bunny finials for my garden fence down at Pickets in Seagrove on 30A when we were at Seaside in May — if you ever go down to the Destin area you should drive out there. Her garden and shop are fantastic — it was featured in ME’s Home Companion a number of years back.
We got some rain yesterday and a wee bit of a cool down — hope it came down your way.

Where do you get all your energy from Manuela?! Love the fence, the slip cover is coming on a treat AND a new bedroom…do you ever just sit awhile?

LOL! Why yes. I make it a point to stop every afternoon to have a coffee/tea and read a bit of a book or watch a movie or some other relaxing thing. I’ve even taking to lying down for 15 min while dinner is cooking. Believe me I know how to work and I know how to play!

I am so happy that you know to caulk nail holes….I was sitting at the doctor’s office yesterday glaring at the nailholes in the chair rail. I just don’t get why a professional office wouldn’t care enough to do that basic step. Sigh……thanks for letting me get that off my chest! LOL
That fence is going to be so cute all painted up and spiffy. That is too much work for me. Congrats to you for getting it done. And that you are all working together!
Have a blessed day.

Enjoy the 4th!

Your projects look awesome and love your flower photo! Good luck with the slipcover! I have 2 chairs to cover, but keep putting it off.

Lots of good projects to get completed. Your fence looks great, and I can’t wait to see how the reupholstering goes. That seems like a daunting project to me.

Hi Manuela,
I’m so glad you showed us how you are making the slip cover for your chair. I need to make TWO of those for my wing back chairs. I dread it, but I will love it so much when it is done, I know that. I had not thought about the importance of putting the piping in. Thanks for the tip of using the zipper foot, I have used mine many times, so that isn’t new at least. This is something I have never done before, but I am determined that I will do it. What kind of fabric are you using?
Your garden is lovely and the fence is very whimsical looking. Very sweet!
Hugs, Cindy

I just finished slipcovers for my sofa. I used painter’s drop cloths. It took FOREVER, but I’m pleased with my “beginner” results.

I need another cup of coffee. I kept reading “my daughter and her husband”. I wondered when she got married?
Then I finally realized it was your daughter and your husband. Sigh… 😉

Buzzzzz, indeed! You have been a busy bee!
I need to follow your lead and get myself busy. Well, I have been busy doing many things, but it seems that I haven’t gotten any projects around the house done lately! I need to get myself out of bed a little earlier and just get with it. Thank you for the inspiration!

You are a dynamo girl! The fence and garden area look great, and I can’t wait to see the chair slipcover finished and the new bedroom finished.

Hi!
I have been reading your blog for quite some time now, but had to take a break due to family issues. I was perusing some back posts and saw one post where you were shopping at your “favorite” place. I live just south of Atlanta, in McDonough, and am currently in the process of redecorating my home due to storm damage. Where in the world is this place that has so many cute things? We have a place down here that is in an old lumber warehouse that your place reminds me of. I am simply dying to visit your shopping destination!
I am an Atlanta native, born and raised here, and love to shop for all things vintage and lately, beach-inspired. My house has been decorated lately in a manner not of my choosing, but now I’m ready to get on with life and decorating.
Thanks for your wonderful blog, your beautiful ideas and your inspired decorating. Stay cool this summer (if that is even possible!).
Gena
P.S. I had to make my blog/website private because of spamming issues and mean people. It is still in existence.
Gena says
P.P.S. I have wanted to try slipcovering for the longest time, but I am afraid of the time it takes. I can’t wait to see how your chair turns out.

I wish I had a facebook so I could see your updates better. I just dare not. I’m addicted to blogland enough already. I am going to bip over and see the first page, though.
I want to tackle a slip cover, and I want to see you do it first.

You have been a busy bee Manuela! Your garden fence is awesome. You’re a brave girl to be tackling a slipcover! Seems like a lot of work but so worth it. Mimi

Wow, you have been busy, and so dedicated to get out in this heat to do fencing! I love the encouragement that you give just by example on staying productive at home. So many ladies don’t take pride in their “nest” anymore. You have shown us so many time that pride is attainable and can be done on a budget.
Have a wonderful July 4th weekend!!

I’m about to embark on slipcovering my sofa…wish me luck! : ) And, I have to say before I go read about your scorpion incident, that last picture is calendar worthy! Gorgeous!

I agree with Clarice Manuela…the picket fence looks so charming unpainted…it matches your larger fence perfectly!!!
Good luck on the slipcover! I made one once for my sofa…what a job!!! Now it’s all worn and I’m trying to figure out how to mend it rather than make another one! :p
I always enjoy visiting here.
Love,
Tracey
