15 Frugal DIY Halloween Costumes
- Start with an idea. I think it is easier to start with an idea of the kind of costume you want to make and then find ways to build it. Think of things your child loves to do, play, watch, read, etc. Then build an idea off of that.
- The simpler, the better. Costumes are only worn for a few hours and then shoved in the back of the closet or thrown out. At my house, they are put in the dress-up bin and played with throughout the year, but not all kids like to play dress-up. Either way, they don’t have to be so elaborate or well constructed because they really only have to last for one day.
- Think about the weather. Halloween night can be chilly, depending on where you live, so think about the under clothes that will need to be layered underneath. Or create the costume out of warm clothes, so kids don’t have to wear coats over their costumes.
