Tweaking The Dining Room

By Manuela Williams

I’ve had a mirror over the cabinet in my dining room for years and years and years! Which I liked – but since I’m going to paint that cabinet and do a few other things in there (sometimes you just get tired of the way things look) I wanted to add some shelves above it to give that area a new look.

decorating with yellow and white accessories

I looked all over for some shelves. I found the perfect one at TJMaxx but they only had 1 and even though we tried other locations we couldn’t find another one (I know I’ll go in there next week and they’ll have a bunch!).

So we went to Lowe’s and got some inexpensive brackets and shelves there. The scrolly brackets were around $9 for a package of two and the shelves were almost $4 each.

 vintage yellow kitchen scale

I like yellow!

I have a ton of  milkglass vases that I’ve gotten at the thriftstore over the years. They’re great for holding one or two stems and make a nice statement when grouped together.

Brambly Hedge teacup

I love this spring Brambly Hedge teacup and my  Puffin Classics volume of The Secret Garden!

That’s all the a tweaking I’ve done in my dining room so far but there’s more to come!

Gorgeous! I just love the lemony yellow! It looks like springtime daffodils. So bright and pretty:>)

I love how sunny that little vignette is. The scale and the book with the flowers-perfection!

Very pretty, Manuela! Love the shelves there. That happens to me all the time when I go to TJ Maxx {or Marshalls or Home Goods}. I see something I need to get 2 of and they only have one. So disappointing. Last time that happened I blogged about it and a bloggy friend found one for me at her TJ Maxx and asked if I wanted her to pick it up for me! Love the yellow you added in. Sometimes those little tweaks can make just the right difference in a spot.

That is the cutest kitchen scale! I love how you are using the pedestal cake plate for displaying other items. Ive just been stacking mine on top of each other. I can’t wait to try your way out!

Yellow is such an up-lifting colour and we need colour so badly right now. This is so nicely put together. I love it all. Deb

I don’t usually use much yellow, but that new chair I got had yellow in it, so I added it to my living room and I loving it. It is such a cheerful color. I really like it with the white. Thanks for continuing to inspire us all.

Yellow and white always looks so fresh…black does the grounding, red adds a bit more pop. Love the shelves instead of the mirror for a change-up that looks great and doesn’t break the bank.

So bright, fresh, cheery, summery….love it! 🙂

Of course I think it all looks fresh and springy, but my favorite part of all is the scale with the book and cup. You have such a great eye for stuff like that.

And I will remember the idea of shelves. I have a mirror in my dining room too, and it’s starting to get… old.
