I always find such pretty cups and saucers at the thriftstore but usually don’t buy them because they’re too flowery for my china cabinet since it’s mostly transferware. So I’ve been thinking of where I could incorporate a few and then it hit me….my china garden! I have plates as a border and hanging on the fence wall, so what could be more perfect than a teacup birdfeeder!

Well if you have a teacup you need a pot don’t you?
I found that teapot at the thriftstore. I didn’t want to use one of my nice ones since I don’t know how that’s going to hold up through a storm! I’m going to look for a prettier one that I don’t mind leaving outside. I glued the lid on and I need to fill the spout with some caulk so it doesn’t collect water and breed mosquitoes.
Here’s how to make the teacup birdfeeder. It’s really easy!
You need a teacup (of course), a 1/2 inch piece of copper pipe, a 1/2 in. copper cap that will sit on top of the pipe, some strong waterproof glue. I read one direction on the internet where they said use hot glue….I don’t know if that will hold in wet weather. I made one last year that fell off it’s wooden post because I used the wrong glue. So use Bondo, E600 or a similar type glue.
Then glue your saucer onto your cup and then glue your cap onto the saucer (with the opening up)and let that sit for several hours to dry. Then you just slip the whole thing onto your copper pipe which should already be in the ground. The good thing is you can easily take the teacup part off to dump the water that will collect when it rains. I’m not really going to put birdfeed in mine but you can!
I think I’ll make a few more at various heights.

My AC is fixed!! Of course, it’s much cooler now than it was last weekend! Anyway… It needed a new motor which wasn’t as expensive as getting a whole new unit but it was still expensive. Thank goodness for Emergency Funds!

I just love, love, love this. I had seen others put tea cup & saucer in their garden as a bird feeder. But this is the first time I've seen the addition of a tea pot. That makes it even more fabulous!!!!

BTW, you are right; if you use a glue gun, it will definitely not hold up outdoors. However, Liquid Nails makes an adhesive especially for outdoor use.

Oh! I love the addition of the teapot!!!! I have a cup/saucer. I used a piece of porch railing for the base and then drilled a hole through the cup and saucer with a bit especially made for chine. Then screwed the cup/saucer to the porch railing.
I use my for a tealight candle when we are outside in the evening.

I wanted to tell you how much your post on conservation of water impressed me and has made me think about all the water I waste! Over the past couple of days I have kept a bowl in my sink and caught excess water from washing veggies, etc and then watered my plants. We are on a well so there is no water charge BUT we do live with the thought that our well may run dry one day. Thanks for making me think twice.

I love it! I been wanting some so bad! I seen them drilled through, but just might could do this! I been trying to get hubby to make me some, I want a fountain made from the tea cup and teapot too! I have no time. I had such a wonderful week of getting things done while I was feeling better. Now I am exhausted, I have four grandchildren daily for a week and do not know when they will get a sitter! She has one starting in August. I love being with them but too much of a good thing. When they leave I just hit the bath and go to bed. I go to Doc Tuesday the seventh, so I will not have them then. I go to find out if I am ready for surgery, he's not going to be happy!
