A Simple Project

By Manuela Williams

Hi everyone! The bulbs I’ve been forcing since December have finally bloomed. Aren’t they pretty!

I have a very simple project to share today. I’m sure most of you have seen where you put a plate on top of an candle holder and use it as a cake stand. This is basically the same thing with a tiny twist.

Step 1 – I found a candlestick and something that I would use as a base at the thrift store.

Step 2 – I flipped the disk around and spray painted both items in black since the plate I’m going to use has black in it.

Step 3 – I attached the two pieces. I used hot glue cause the only other glue I had was Elmers. This looks pretty good to me too. It makes the candlestick chunkier.

Step 4 – I painted some stripes on the base.

I didn’t attach the plate to the stand because I’m not sure I want to keep it forever.

Ta-Da! It’s sort of a Mackenzie-Childs inspired cake stand. I got the plate a while ago at TJ Maxx. I think it was in December so I’m not sure they have them anymore.

Be sure to let me know if you try this as I’d love to see it!

You are so clever and resourceful;D

That plate would be perfect here in Indiana during the Indianapolis 500. All businesses in Indy are decorated with a racing theme in the month of May. I know you probably weren’t thinking racing flags when you bought this plate but it sure does fit the occasion.

    Love your blog!

As soon as I saw the checks I too thought MacKenzie Childs. I love their designs but not the prices.
SO, yours I love and I love the price.

A black and white cake stand, and red toile accents – what could be more perfect! I think I’ll head out to the nearest TJ Max in case they have any plates left.

You have such a knack…only a creative mind can look at all those pieces and say “hey, I think I’ll put all these together and create this FABULOUS cake stand”. And of course…it always looks better in black!

    Blessings,
    Susie

    Great idea! It’s beautiful.

I had to comment about your last post and the comforter. I tend to buy things simply because they are on sale. When it’s 50 or 75% off it’s so hard to resist! Sometimes I find I spend more $ buying stuff on clearance because I don’t PLAN the purchase and just happen upon it. That unplanned purchase leads to many more and so it goes. Thanks for sharing. Also, thanks for the tips on getting rid of ants in the garden.
