Painted Living Room Mirror

By Manuela Williams

Here’s a really quick project I recently did. I painted this mirror that used to hang over my sofa. My faux fireplace is now where the sofa is with a different mirror over it.

That big mirror is now  hanging where the fireplace used to be. They’ve sort of  switched spots.

I didn’t bother to take it down to paint because it’s really heavy! But that’s also what I did when I painted it white (it originally was  silver). I just painted it with a good angled brush – two coats. Actual painting time couldn’t have been more than 20 minutes! LoVe projects that are quick & easy!

painting a mirror

It’s the same color as my china cabinet which you can see reflected in the mirror in photo below.

I thought it was a good way to spread that color around so that the cabinet wouldn’t be the only thing that’s a dirty robbin’s egg blue.

blue mirror

It’s a good starting point for something on that wall don’t ya think? Maybe more hoop art? Or a collection of  cottage paintings, or paint-by-number flower paintings, shutters maybe? Or how about some vintage trays? The possibilities are endless and exciting!

Woo-hoo! Space to collect something new!

I suppose some would keep just the mirror. Maybe to give the eye a place to rest. But I know myself, a practically blank wall won’t stay that way for long! 🙂

Love that color Manuela…and it is great getting a bigger snap shot of your room with the kitchen and dining room in the background!

I like the idea of adding another piece that same color, which is fabulous by the way. Please show us when you get the all decked out.

I love it the robin’s egg blue. I have been planning to add that color to our house more. I have it in the powder room and want to spread the love. I can’t believe you can paint right on the wall. You should see the mess I make every time I paint something.

Love the new color of the mirror! I like it on the wall alone, but with your lovely decor, I’m sure that wall would look gorgeous if you hung up other things, too!

I love the Robin’s Egg blue. I’ve been trying to add that color to my family room. My furniture is so dark and it won’t be replaced anytime soon. I really want to paint my mantel but I’ll have to wait for Jimbo to be out of town. I’m not sure that one would go over really well. Your hydrangeas are beautiful.

I had to look at my photos for a minute because I didn’t bring any hydrangeas in yet. Those from the before photo with the couch are fake 🙂

That looks great, Manuela! That’s neat ~ I’m guessing you had that architectural piece resting on top of it when it was white? I thought it was part of the mirror! I like it turned this way and how it looks on your wall. Oh yes, lots of possibilities here. I might look for some transferware with that color to put on either side, if it was me. : ) I’m sure whatever you come up with will look great. I love the peek into your dining room and kitchen, too, from this view.

      May 14, 2012 at 6:04 pm

Kathy, that was a separate architectural piece. I have it on top of the mirror that’s over the fireplace now.

LOL! Well, yes, my first inclination was to add some transferware – I have plenty. 🙂 But that’s a pass through into the living room and dining room and I’m afraid someone (6’2″ husband maybe) would bump up against the plates. So I’m thinking something not so fragile which is why I like hoop art -can’t hurt that. But we’ll see what speaks to me.

Nothing like some new space to play with, and some color that makes your heart sing!

Very nice! Like the color. You are getting all that work done inside and planting a garden and other yard work outside?!? I am a slacker 😀

    • Manuela says

      May 14, 2012 at 6:10 pm

I work inside on rainy days and outside when it’s nice. Or outside in the early am when it’s cool and inside in the afternoon when it’s hot. I have my days when I don’t do anything but watch movies, listen to music and read. But I’ve found that I can’t have too many of those kind of days – I feel better when I’m doing something and getting stuff done.

Talk about talented, if I tried painting it on the wall, I would have drps and streaks all over the place! The color looks beautiful:>)

Your home is so bright and cheerful! I love it. In my head that is exactly how I want my house to look, but with three kids… well, my house mostly looks like a bomb hit it five times. : )

LOL…You are the voice of me…blank wall space is pretty much like painting half a picture on a canvas and leaving the rest empty…NOT! 😉 Love the changes. You are busy busy…I have gotten more picture space and am coming back to my blog… (ok…my hubby got more picture space for me and he knew I needed to come back. ) I missed it. Hugs to you Manuela!! xoxo

I like the mirror hanging vertically, Manuela! And I love that blue–a beautiful shade. Did you not even tape off the glass when you painted it? You must be really good at cutting in! Even with a good angled brush, my hand is just not very steady.

    • Manuela says

      May 14, 2012 at 10:36 pm

Nope no tape. I just use a razor blade to clean off any paint that might get on the glass. I don’t tape off anything unless I’m using spray paint because I can’t control the over spray.

I”m getting ready to paint some outdoor furniture that robin’s egg blue. They’ve been white but I’m ready for some outdoor color. Loved your garden gate too. Have an awesome day!

I love how you totally changed the look with the paint and the decorative piece on top. Is it attached to the frame or just set on top?

I love the color. I keep trying to eliminate, but can’t do it! If there’s a space, I too will fill it!
