Off The Shelf

By Manuela Williams

Well I think that after being stung by a scorpion yesterday, spending hours in the ER and having a tetanus shot……..I think I’m just going to take it easy today and read some new books ( that I got with my Amazon gift certificates that earned by doing Swagbucks)!

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.

All I can say is,  Atlanta people, be careful of what’s in your pinestraw that you get from the big box stores!

My New Books:

  1. The Simplicity Primer – 365 ideas for making life more livable  (flipping through it I find that there are many things I already do but a few I don’t – so we’ll see)
  2. Micro Eco-Farming – Prospering from Backyard to Small Acreage In Partnership with the Earth  (I’m excited to read this one as it’s supposed to be have real-life examples of people that make a living from their urban/micro farms)
  3. The Dehydrator Bible (did you know you should prick blueberries before dehydrating). It also has over 400 recipes using various dried ingredients
  4. Unexpected Crochet for the Home – good thing it was free because there are only about 2 or 3 projects that I would  actually make!

Isn’t it fun having a new stack of books to read?  There’s nothing like being engrossed in a good book. Hopefully most of these won’t disappoint!

I guess scorpions are the thing now — there was a news story the other night about someone that was stung on a commercial flight in Alaska! I have 4 bales of pine straw to strew in the backyard where no grass ever grows due to shade and chickens. I guess I best be extra attentive while doing it (which ain’t gonna get done until the temps dip back to the low 90’s anyways).

Take care and enjoy the new books! I have a Stampington “Handcrafted” magazine calling out to me when I fix my afternoon chai. Hope you recover from the scorpion sting soon!

The nurse that gave me my shot was telling me that story! Yes, be careful. I think that one that got me hitched a ride on my pants. Chickens are very good scorpion eaters btw – another reason to have chickens!

Hi Manuela, How fun! A stack of new books! I love to read, I am working on two at this moment, plus my Bible.
So sorry to hear that you were stung by a scorpion, it sounds painful. Glad you are on the mend from it, though.
    Hugs, Cindy

So sorry to hear you were stung. I hope you are feeling OK. We don’t have scorpions here, but just the thought scares me.

    Enjoy your books and rest!

We have them in the mountains and woods but not in residential areas. This one was “imported” in a bale of pine straw!

Oh, Manuela, I ‘m so sorry that you were stung. How awful. Worse yet, hanging out at the ER and then getting “stung” again. The indignites! Hope that your books will provide you just the rest and relaxation you need. Blessings…

Hi Manuela! Oh, my goodness, I’m so sorry to hear you got stung! I hope you’re okay and it’s not too painful. That is good you went to the ER – those things are so poisonous! Well, you’ve set up a pretty little book vignette and I hope you get lots of rest and are able to read to your little heart’s content.
Happy 4th and be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

I’m so sorry about you being stung by a scorpion. I live in central Ga and never thought about a scorpion being in there. Snakes and ticks yes. Thanks for the warning. I’ll be even more careful when spreading pine straw out of bales. Take care and enjoy reading.

A scorpion sting? Criminey. That’s something to brag about later on, but no fun at the moment.

I hope you enjoy reading The Simplicity Primer as much as I enjoyed writing it.

    Kind regards,
    Patrice Lewis

Oh my gosh, I can’t imagine being stung by a scorpion. We don’t have them here in northern IL, but I’ve seen pictures of them and they look SO scary. I hope that you got some rest and had time to look through your new books.

One of my favorite things is a new book or magazine. The micro-eco farming one sounds very interesting. I might have to get it. However, I’ve been battling squash bugs and deer this year so I wouldn’t make much of a living! Happy reading and Happy 4th. Glad you’re ok. Scorpion sting? ouch.

    Manuela–
I was wondering how you got bit by a scorpion up there in GA. We have them here in FL–in fact my HS “mascot” was a scorpion. We worry about pygmy rattlers in our mulch from the big boxes.
Glad you didn’t suffer any ill effects. But at least you had some new books to relax with.
BTW–I really like you new site.
    Blessings-
    Megan

      Thank you!

O.K. I think I’d be more scared of the pygmy rattlers! Really just makes we want to use bagged pine bark chips!
