Inexpensive & Easy Art Project

By Manuela Williams

Our master bathroom is done in black and white toile (you can see it here). I have mostly black, white and silver accents in there. It was time for a change!

I’ve loved these shell prints that I made. They look really good with the creamy yellow walls (Venetian Plaster).

But I wanted to introduce some splashes of color. So I decided to remake these shell prints and I didn’t want to spend any money.

black and white shell prints

These black and white prints were originally these goose prints that I got at Goodwill believe it or not!

Originally I used Vintage Printable  to print out the black and white shells.

spray painted thriftstore frames

All I  did was  spray paint the frames black, print and attach the shell prints to the existing goose print and called it done!  So easy!

This time I went to the Graphics Fairy and found some wonderful vintage coral clip art to use in my new prints.

I did have to re-size them in Photoshop because these are small frames. I also added the yellow background with Photoshop (mainly because I didn’t have any card stock only white printer paper on hand).

Then all I had to do was cut them to size and insert them into the frames.

These frames are the perfect size for that narrow space between the window and door frame.

Easy peasy project! Love that and LOVE, love, love how the colors pop in the black frame.

Very nice — you have such a good esthetic, especially in seeing the potential in something! Graphics Fairy is the best.

The black frames look great against your wall to begin with, Manuela, but the addition of the yellow and red is really pretty! I’m already eying the January page of my Cavellini calendar and wondering if I should cut it up and frame it now.

Love the new splash of “bright”! I went back and revisited your master bath post. I “kudos” everything you said about being content with what you have in the present, and making the most of it. It doesn’t take a lot of designer genes or decorator savvy to take a small space and make it pretty and make it YOU! **My bath is small too! 🙂 LOVE your new look. and so easy! and inexpensive! You give lot’s of low-cost ideas on your posts and that’s good! You know I’m loving the Toile…ALWAYS! Hugs Manuela. thanks for sharing.

I do like this pop of color in here, Manuela. I liked the black and white, as well, but the red just says,
    “Hello! “

I’m impressed! Do you do that on a regular printer? I’ve never attempted to print something like that. Nice!

Those look great. You have a knack for finding dated things at the thrift store and turning it into something really trendy. Love that.

I do like those – a lot. I also liked the shells in black and white. I have a couple of pictures in my kitchen/dining area that need updating bad – I need to see what graphics fairy has.
    Enjoy your weekend.

I love DIY decorating projects. I think it’s so much more satisfying to know I re-purposed something I didn’t love and turned it into something beautiful. Thanks for the great idea!

Not only do these look great, I love that you reused something that was already out there. And well, lets face it, giving those 1980’s duck prints a new life is a very good thing! LOL Thank you for joining TTF last week! I hope you are having a wonderful day!

LOVE the way that pink/red pops against the yellow and black. I have some round frames that have held some of my Gone With The Wind plates, but since they haven’t been on the wall in a decade or so, I figure I can use them for something else. Thanks for the info on the graphics…I’m thinking of using vintage butterfly images with the frames.
