DIY Saturday: How To Paint Laminate Bookcases

By Manuela Williams

Happy weekend everyone! I think most of us have a piece or two (or three) of laminate furniture, especially those inexpensive bookcases. I have a brown one that I want to use in my office but I want it to be white. My desk is also laminate and it’s a maple look and I want that a different color also. As always, I have more time than money so painting those items would give me the look I want for less than replacing those pieces. Besides  we’re working on repair, re-use, re-purpose this year. So this DIY fits right in.

Here’s a great tutorial on how to paint laminate (in this case bookcases) with lasting results. Meaning it’s not going to bubble or scratch if you use it.

I have laminate bookcases {short ones} in my craft/sewing room, Manuela. Luckily, they had white and that is what I bought. Looking forward to seeing how yours come out, as well as the desk. It’s good that you can paint laminate because if there is nothing wrong with it except wanting a different color, it makes for a great reuse and recycle of furniture project. I would much rather make over something I have than have to buy something.

Me too! I’d rather find a way to re-make/re-use an item if it’s possible.

I have some bookcases that could definitely use some paint!

Your bookcases are so pretty in white.

I have done this one! I actually painted my white laminate… white. It just looked better with a coat of paint and less laminate-y if you know what I mean.

    Hello, my dear friend,
I am just thrilled to find your laminate tutorial. I have a few ugly pieces and have wonderfed how it would take to paint. Now I know…thanks to you!
When Easter week is over…Spring cleaning and some painted projects are in my future.
    Blessings and Happy Happy Easter!
