The Best Goodwill Day Ever!

By Manuela Williams

Once again it’s Rhoda’s (Southern Hospitality) yardsale/thriftstore linky party! I had great shopping day on Friday. Starting with my Kroger trip where I only spend $58 and got bags and bags of groceries. I lucked into lots of food they had just marked down. 50 cent loaves of bread and such! My freezer is full! Then I stopped at Goodwill…

I was looking at the fabric section when I saw this pile of rumpled white material.

I picked one up – they’re white Parson’s chair slipcovers. At first I thought they were the kind that tie on but they’re not!

The fit perfectly on my Ballard chair and are made just like my Ballard slipcovers only there’s no tag inside! They’re in really good shape. One has a teeny stain on the seat but I’m sure I can get it out.

There were four of them of them but I only took two because I only have two Parson’s Chairs. But I tried one on my wooden dining room chairs and it fits perfectly. I could kick myself for not getting all four now! I could have used them on my regular chairs and kept the black check slips on the Parson’s Chairs…oh well!

$3.23 a slipcover…the cheapest Ballard slip is $39!

Here are a some other things I got that day. You can see the top of the black checkered slip in this picture

I got this cute wire teacup filled with faux peonies maybe roses? I thought this would be perfect in my Blue Toile Guest Bedroom!

Look at this!

Those 2 iron bookends were from Anthropologie – $20!

That’s what I paid!

They’re so much prettier than the plain white bookends I was using!

The topiary I put on top of my black china cabinet. How I wish they would have had two!

The tray I’m using for an organizing project.

This little cross was just $1.21 and I added it to my cross collection in our main hallway.

I was a very happy camper Friday between the good deals I got at the grocery store and the good deals I got at Goodwill!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week everyone!

Wow, you scored on those slipcovers & yes you should have bought all 4. Great deals, you obviously have much better thrift stores than we do over here. I never find great stuff at those. But then again, I don't need to, cause we have great yardsales.

You got some great deals. Could you go back to see if they still have the other two covers? That is a great price. Your "Nest" art piece in the first photo would look great in my 1/2 bath.

I'll get only what I need and then get home and think I could have used what I left behind, and why didn't I buy it especially when the price is so cheap. Oh well, maybe there was someone who really needed those slipcovers who was just thrilled when they walked into the store and found them!

    Hello Manuela,
It was so nice to get caught up on all your posts. You were very lucky at the thrift store. Good for you. Everything at your house is looking just lovely. I enjoyed all your older posts that I hadn't read yet. For meal planning I am doing a binder for the whole year with the recipes included so that I don't have to go searching for it. I shop for things on sale and have noticed for quite awhile that our area tends to put the same things on sale at the same time every year. Since I only shop to fill the pantry then this shouldn't be too hard. Loved your guest bedroom. It's very cute. Your garden is lovely and of course I loved your morning glories. My garden is played out right now. It's time to get out there and pull out several things but it's been way too hot to venture out. Well it's back to work on Thursday so I hope that I'll be able to keep up. Thank goodness we can also go backwards to read past posts. Thanks for keeping me inspired. Have a great week.
    Love, Amanda

Our Goodwills and thrift shops are not so thrifty! For some reason they have some things higher than I see them new. Our budget is small. We have though found enough marked at what would be thrifty prices to keep us happy and still looking for many years now! Ya never know what you will find and when but so much fun looking! 🙂 I would be bored silly to have to shop in the "real" retail stores for all our needs. I like the origionality and creativity of decorating the thrift way. You Manuela have always inspired us to dream and shop on!!! Jody

I think the others are right – you have the best Goodwill karma ever. 🙂 The slipcovers are just lovely. I was fortunate enough one time to luck into beautiful cream slipcovers for my dining room chairs at Target – they were marked down to $5 a piece and there were only six left – which is just how many chairs I have. So I got gorgeous slipcovers for $30 total, instead of the regular $120 cost. I was so happy that day I practically danced home.
