The first thing to do is to look at the skills you use each day. How can you use them to make or do something someone else will want to pay for?
When it comes to ways to make money as a homemaker, the most popular way is by using your skills to make and sell products. Can you sew? How about putting a twist on something that is already popular like making pillow covers instead of actual pillows for example? Do you knit or crochet? Can you craft jewelry or other fun things that bring you joy? By establishing yourself and your handicraft skills on Etsy you open the door to additional income all year long. Flea markets, Facebook buy/sell groups and Instagram are good for these items too.
Do you love to can your own jams and jellies? Grow a lush garden full of fresh organic produce? Opening a stand at the local farmers market either on your own or with a friend is a great way to make extra money doing what you love. Simply create extra batches of the goodies you make for your own family to sell. Check your state’s Cottage Food laws before you start this one.
Make dinners for people that are too busy to cook. This is really becoming popular. People don’t want to eat out all the time but some don’t have the time or energy to make home cooked meals. Another idea is to bake special occasion cakes if that’s something you’re great at and sell those!
Making soaps, body products, and homemade cleaners is something you can do from home. If your state allows the resale of homemade beauty products and homemade cleaning products, you could make some big money with this one. Depending on your state, if you make any claims other than it smells good and will get you clean, then you step into the cosmetics arena and the laws may change. Some states allow you to create sugar scrubs, lotion bars, and all of the other fun stuff you find on Pinterest to be sold with no problems. So check with the laws in your state before starting this type of business.
Coupon and sell items you find. This one has been growing in popularity. By couponing you can build a stockpile and resell or trade everyday items with friends and family. This is a great way to help others around you save money while you make a profit. You can even use money saving apps like this one to get cash to fund buying more items on sale.
Do you love to makeover furniture and accessories? You may even find items you can clean up and resell for a higher cost later.
By getting creative you can earn money with the same homemaking skills you use every day to care for your home and family!
Not into making things to sell?
Why not use your essential homemaking skills to start a business and offer a service.
Cleaning homes is a popular way homemakers make extra money. This is a great way to make extra money while the kids are in school or on days your husband is home to take over. Some moms clean offices after hours and are allowed to bring their kids.
Speaking of kids, if you have little ones at home and don’t mind one or two extra, babysitting might be a good fit for you. This is a great way to make money without even leaving your home. You could offer after school care or just do occasional sitting.
Also, you could teach something. Do you play an instrument, speak a foreign language, are you artist or writer? Offering tutoring or lessons for some extra money is a great idea then.
You can start by searching your local Facebook sales pages. You are bound to find others in need of a service you have to offer. In addition, check with friends and family too.
With a little thought you will find a way to make money with your homemaking skills that works for you and your family!

Oh you hit the nail right on the head! I have always been home oriented. Even as a child I wanted to be a homemaker but now that my kids are almost grown I wonder if I should have gone to college early in life. There are so many career women out there. I have been cleaning homes part time since my children were young. It has allowed me to work a few hours a week so I could be home with them. I never missed a school event or found myself in a bind when one of them was home sick. I am usually done for the day around lunch time PLUS you can WAY make more money than you would working at a retail store or restaurant. I charge a minimum or $25 an hour. It can be hard work depending on the condition of the home. Some people are very neat and some are not. I have never had to work on holidays and I take vacations whenever I want to. My clients do not mind if I tell them I have to skip a week because I will be out of town.
I have always been a very creative person loving to craft and decorate. In 2006 I started my design business. I went back to school to become an Interior Decorator and offer my services to local residents plus sell my work on my website and Etsy. I also love to work on my blog and connect with like minded women. It is a great creative outlet for me. It feels so good to make money doing something I love and make people smile.
