Artichokes Out of the Kitchen

By Manuela Williams

Hi everyone! I thought I’d show you a little display I made out of totally thrifted items. I’ve been lucky to find some great artichoke finials in the past 5 or 6 months so I put them all together.

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links to Amazon and/or Etsy, which means that I may earn a small commission from some of the links in this post. Please see our Disclosure Page for more information.

This one I got at Goodwill last week for $3.13. As you can see there are a few leaves missing but I just turned it around and you can’t tell!

The little white one was also from Goodwill and the little black one was a silver one I found in a bag of Christmas floral picks. I spray painted it black and it’s sitting in a thrifted candleholder. Everything but the bow is thrifted! Even the black round piece of wood that black urn finial is on!

The big white one was $8.78 and as you can see it still has the Homegoods sticker on it. My Goodwill gets alot of stuff from Homegoods, TJMaxx, Marshalls and Ikea!

Above is one of the two Anthropology bookends I found this summer at Goodwill.

Some people do very well with garage and yardsales, I’m blessed with a wonderful Goodwill! I would never be able to buy these things at full retail price. I go into Anthropology to look, but I very rarely buy anything there. I do shop TJmax/Homegoods but even then I’m pretty careful on what I spend my money on (mostly plates because they are so inexpensive there and always so cute)! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’re having a good week! We’re expecting lots of heavy rain due to Ida!

Love your artichokes, Manuela! Of course, I love eating the real thing more! I like how you have the different colors mixed in together and that the heights vary. I should take another trip to my Goodwill and see what they have going on.

I really like your vignette. Have not been to Goodwill in some time – the ones around here just don't have the treasures that yours' do.

Such a lovely grouping. Your creativity is so inspiring. Lately we have been so bogged down with the kids activities and Audley traveling that I have really let the little things go. Maybe and outing to the Goodwill during the rainy Tuesday is just what I need!

    Have a great week,

I love the artichokes! And I appreciate your telling us where you find your wonderful goodies. I agree with you: I rarely buy anything at full retail, and even at TJMaxx and HomeGoods I'm pretty careful. Some of my favorite things have been found on the clearance aisle at TJMaxx–and some of my friends have told me that they didn't even know that TJMaxx had a clearance aisle! But thrift store finds–now, there you can be pretty sure that you're getting a good price (although even there I sometimes pass over items that are too expensive).

I do sometimes shop retail stores when they have special sales. I'm always amazed at just how much retailers discount things at times–which shows that their original prices are in fact pretty inflated.

Your tips are always so welcome!

Very cute, Manuela! I have found that thrifting is so much fun. When you come across a great item at a great price it is so exciting! I also like to watch something be transformed from something kind of ugly to something beautiful. It is true one man's trash is anothers man's treasure!

You are lucky to have such a fabulous Goodwill. I would be in heaven if my Goodwill got stuff from Home Goods & TJ Maxx. Love your artichokes. Great collection. I have only 2. I hope to find more to add to my collection.

I hope you don't get too much rain. We could sure use some here in southern California.

We have a couple of thrift stores in our town, but they very seldom have anything but junk. And the prices aren't very good.

@cheapchichome. I didn't realize I was a closet artichoke collector till I saw your display then realized I had them all over the house! (Thanks for stopping by my blog.) One of my friends offered me her juicer, too, plus I saw the Jack LaLane one at Goodwill(!). I've been using it everyday (so far).
