Works In Progress

By Manuela Williams

Well I feel like I’ve moved house! My house is in such disarray from moving my daughter to her new bedroom/work area (she has the entire downstairs now).  Well the dog and I have a little corner! We’re converting her old bedroom into a cozy tv room. Boxes need unpacking and furniture needs to be placed! Still need to do some touch up painting and  I promised her new curtains and bedding – so we have to shop for that stuff. But that’s the fun stuff!

I was able to get her this wonderful corner desk at Office Max  for $40 originally $187 (something like that). It was marked down to $100 to make way for some new designs and I had $67 dollars in MaxPerks rewards. The MaxPerks were primarily for turning in used printer cartridges. Most of the cartridges are from friends who can’t be bothered with doing the program.  We haven’t had to pay for printer paper or ink cartridges in ages. It’s truly a wonderful program – check it out if you’re not familiar with it. Every little bit helps these days don’t ya think?

We had to sell our beautiful red sectional because it wouldn’t fit in our new TV room. So we got this little sectional at IKEA. I  love it because it’s slipcovered so  when the dog gets it dirty or we spill food on it – into the washer it goes.

It’s a cozy little room since it used to be a bedroom. I’m looking forward to decorating it! I might paint the walls. The rug is blue/gray and will be staying for the time being.  It’s 12 years old and has seen better days 🙂 I’m think of putting an area rug on top of it maybe. Maybe it’ll look better with a good scrubbing – I’ll try that first.  It’s a really small space but we’re finding that we really are enjoying it more than having the  downstairs family room.

Some other things I’m working on.

I thought about where in my yard I’m the most happy and it was my vegetable garden. So I’m  making a little seating area in there. This used to be my potting bench area but my husband built me a really nice large potting table that I decided to move to another area  (another project). It’ll be nice to be able to sit down and rest when working in the garden.  I can see myself having my coffee out here when it gets cooler or sharing a drink in the evening with my husband or a friend.

Anyway, I think it’ll be a cute little area when I’m done with it. I have to take up those pavers and make it more even and larger.  I’m moving my composters further down and have some other plans.

We decided on a color for the barn but I’ll surprise you all with it when it’s done.  Just waiting for cooler weather to tackle the outdoor projects! But I have plenty to do indoors – that’s for sure.

Didn’t have a chance to work on my chair slipcover at all with all the painting and moving we did last week. I can’t wait to get it done because I moved my sewing machine into the living room while I work on it and the living room is a mess. I really don’t like disorder. It makes me feel like I can’t focus.

Oh there are lots of other things in the works! But today we’re all resting because we’re all sick! Even Maxie our Golden. I had to give him some Pepcid AC today because he’s had an upset stomach (recommended by our Vet by the way).

I must say I’m tired! I don’t usually feel so tired. Anyway, just wanted to check in with you sweet people to let you know what’s  happening around here and that I probably will not post again until the weekend.

Have a good week!

Wow, great deal on the desk and clearly I need to visit IKEA more often! I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do in your little seating area outside!

You always have a lot of irons in the fire Manuela. I hope you and the family feel better soon. Rest up while you can, before the barn painting, garden seating arranging, carpet scrubbing, reupholstering….etc. starts up again. (And you wonder why you’re tired?)

What wonderful projects you’re working on! I love the seating area in the vegetable garden… I have one that was put in a couple of years ago and I Adore It!

Good deal on the desk! And the sectional from Ikea looks great. One of my dreams is to go to an Ikea some day (we don’t have one anywhere within hundreds and hundreds of miles! Atlanta may be the closest one) — but maybe it’s just as well. So many great deals must make it very tempting, and even great deals can challenge the budget.

Hope you all feel better soon.

🙂 Yes! I make a point of at least taking a break every afternoon for coffee and some quiet time and some times I will lie down for a bit while dinner is cooking. My problem is that I can’t do just one thing at a time so it seems like I’m working like a crazy person but I’m really not!

    Hi Manuela~
I am never surprised that you have many things going on! Did anyone ask why there are 3 cpu’s sitting there? LOL OK so I have 3 as well, one to be recycled, and two are needed. It’s the 3 printers that everyone shakes their heads at. But they are all necessary as well.

This is going to be a great space for your daughter. And I love the new sofa. I keep thinking about how well a sectional would suit us, but not sure about when you have company staying and how to watch TV then.

A place to sit near you veggie garden is such a great idea for enjoying the fruits of you labor.

:)Donna I was wondering if anyone would notice! She’s an animation major and needs all those cpu’s to render her animation projects.

Rethinking the way we use our homes is a very good thing. One I need to get to work on since I am outgrowing my workspace!

Get some rest, girl! You’ve earned it! 🙂

Feel better soon! This heat is brutal when it comes to energy levels! Your projects have certainly kept you busy this summer. It is great to see the vision and plans you have and watch them explode with your imagination. The sectional you found for your TV room is great! It just looks cozy and comfortable. A smaller space is great for family bonding. Don’t you just hate being in the same room but seeming 50 miles apart?

    Enjoy your rest this week,
    Jennifer

I love the desk and IKEA couch. We have a similar IKEA couch (only bigger) in our downstairs family room, with the cream-colored slipcovers. We had to take one off a cushion and wash it when we only had the couch a week, as one of our cats threw up on it! I was so afraid of the slipcover shrinking, but you’ll be glad to know that it went back on as good as new. Just don’t put it in the dryer!

    Hi Manuela Sweetie…
What a gorgeous post. I love seeing the works that you have in progress. I bet your daughter is so happy to have the whole basement area to herself. Her own little world. Love that desk, and I am not familiar with Max Perks but will definitely be checking this out. Can’t wait to see your happy seating area. Our gardens do make our hearts “HAPPY” do they not?

Sorry to hear that you have been under the weather sweet friend. I will add your family to my prayer list. Take care of yourselves. It is really bad when the whole family gets down.

This is the Miracle Weekend makeover. I am one of the hosting sites. For every comment left, Guideposts magazine will pay a dollar, to the next cancer makeover patient. I would appreciate it, if you pass the word around to as many friends as possible.

Thank you sweetie for a wonderful post. I love it. Have a glorious weekend. Country hugs from Phoenix, Sherry
