Updated Pictures of Our Family Room

By Manuela Williams

Hi everyone! Well I finally finished painting my family room (otherwise know as the Toile Free Zone) and thought I’d show you what I have done so far.
posters

It’s a room that we do so much in! We rarely go to movies but we love to watch movies at home. Friday has been official Family Movie Night for years! This room is also my husband’s office. It’s where my daughter and I work on creative stuff. It’s my sewing room and it’s where Maxie sleeps! So there’s a lot that has to happen in this room and everything has it’s own little area.
old&New
The Before. I did change the color from that yellow to khaki since I had to paint the whole room and not just the new paneling. I also decide to switch everything around and flipped the layout.

sofa
That same corner After. I love this red couch! This room is more “modern” than the rest of the house. My husband likes toile – he doesn’t love it like I do. He likes modern design. So since he lives here too~smile, I try to keep to that design style down here (it’s hard!!). BTW this is where you go when you come into the foyer and go downstairs.
tvcabinet
The tv armoire is still on a dolly because I’m getting ready to paint it. I was going to do a fun color but decided that I have so much white and black paint leftover from other projects that I’m just going to use one of those.
ottoman
The upholstered ottoman holds some extra throws and gaming equipment. I got it at Big Lots about two years ago.

chaise
I still have tons to do in this half of the room!

fan
I have a few more movie posters to hang and some other movie themed things, I haven’t decided what to do about window treatments and of course I have to paint the armoire, and I need another little side table for the chair in the corner.

Stainlesssteeltable
I also need to move on to our crafting area (sneak peek alert)!

nest
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you liked the peek into my Toile Free Zone! I know it’s really different than the rest of my house!

 Have a wonderful week!

Very cool and pretty too! Love that snazzy red sofa.

They had the cutest little table at Kirklands that would be perfect in here. It is half moon shaped with three drawers. They had apple green, red or black. Adorable. 🙂

Manuela, I like your family room! Reminds me of our media room–not a bit of frou-frou in the place!

Your painted paneling looks great. While those panel boards may not be what we'd choose, they are incredibly sturdy, aren't they? And they really do look good when painted. I'm hoping that some people who think they're stuck with old paneling will see what you've done and be inspired to paint!

I really like your toile-free zone. I like the comfortable, modern look but it still has the wonderful color that seems to be your design signature.

I really like the red couch. Where did you find it? I'm considering new furniture but haven't seen just the right thing yet.

I thought of you Saturday when we were furniture shopping and I glimpsed a pretty red sofa. My husband picked out a sectional for his living room. Since I spend much of my time here in the garden room on the computer, I let him decorate his "man cave."

I love that sectional and the color is so fun, Manuela! The pillow fabric, too. Did you make those? Great ottoman ~ I always love storage ottomans. More bang for your buck I think. The wall color is great. I have that same armoire! Right now it is in my daughter's old bedroom, but when we eventually move I want to paint it. I'll be watching to see how the white or black looks.
