Turkey Plates

By Manuela Williams

Hi everyone! I’ve been fighting a cold and really haven’t felt like doing much except laying in bed and watching old shows on Hulu! But we have relatives coming in from out of town on Monday so I’m plodding around trying to get things in order for that. This will be the first time they’ve seen the house and they are people who are very focused on the external, brand name only, shop at Neiman Marcus kind of people. So I have a teeny bit of anxiety about the whole thing! Anyway, I’m redoing my china cabinet for Christmas (it calms me to play with my dishes) and thought I’d bring a few turkey plates into the kitchen.

Those are vintage turkey salt-n-pepper shakers in the middle. The pumpkin ones are from the dollar spot at Target and the big acorn ones are from last year end of the season sale at Hobby Lobby. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Because I know some of you will want the name of the pattern!

I spotted this pretty silver serving spoon while looking through the jumble of silverware at Goodwill a few weeks ago. It’s really heavy (if that means anything)!

I added some black pom pom fringe to the white that was already there. Now it looks like black and white pom pom fringe! Love it!

I made the placemat the dishthingie is on. I just used a piece of brown and cream toile and because the material was soooo thin I used an old placemat to back it. I just sewed the new material on top (I guess it’s reversible now).

Now back to my china cabinet (which I’ll take pictures of next week and post). Thanks for stopping by!

Patti – it's a fancy dish drainer that I got at TJ Maxx a few months ago. Best money I ever spent there since I have lots of dishes and am always looking for ways to enjoy them!

I love the turkey dishes! I have admired them at TJ Maxx for a long time and I am going to get them one day 😉 I mean you can't never have too many dishes no matter what they say!!!

Don't you worry about the company not being impressed by your house, it is just lovely and they couldn't come up with your great style if they tried!!!!

I like the spoon, I have dug through the silverware at the thrifts before but it's usually junk. Love the dishes too. I swear if I could have a dish room I would. I love putting different dishes together and the tablescapes people come up with. Some day I guess:>) Time to get my turkey stuff out!

I went craaaaazy buying those turkey plates, soup dishes, etc. etc. the last couple of years at Homegoods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Tuesday Morning and Old Time Pottery. Last year we were gone for Thanksgiving, so I didn't get to use them, but we have a gigantic extended family and eventually I'll have enough for everybody to eat off a turkey plate on Thanksgiving. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! I love them!

You have the neatest dish collections! I don't have a collection, only an everyday dish and my wedding china (that is plain white – by choice). But you SO inspire me to have a dish collection and I find myself eyeing dishes everywhere I go. I keep having to tell myself I HAVE NO PLACE TO STORE THEM!!! wonder if my husband would mind if I get rid of his clothes and start stacking dishes on his side of the closet!! hehe, oh, and that serving spoon is GORGEOUS!!! I need to look for some of that stuff at my GW.

    Hi, Manuela –
I hope you are feeling better and that you are ready to greet your guests when they arrive. You have nothing to fear – your home is lovely and you should be at ease and just be yourself! I love that spoon. I recently found three old teaspoons at Goodwill. Think I'll polish them up and tie a pretty ribbon around them for display. And maybe while I'm at it I'll get out the gorgeous old silver pieces that belonged to my dear, dear friend who is no longer with us. She gave them to me with such love and joy. Your home is always an inspiration to me! Relax and enjoy every minute with your company. ~Adrienne~
