Thrifty Treasures

By Manuela Williams

 Bow
Hi everyone! My friend Rhoda has started up her thrifting/yardsale linky party again. This is always a fun one, as people find the most amazing things. Be sure to check out all the other participants – Southern Hospitality Today’s Thrifty Treasures.

Thirftyfinds

I went to two thriftstores on my birthday and really found some wonderful things for my home. The glass bird with the nest in the lower right corner has a hole on the top. I guess I’m to fill it with something?
grasses
3 prints of different types of grasses. I’ll put these in my downstairs bathroom as that room has some botanical prints.

redjar

This beautiful red jar still has the Ross tags on it. I’m going to have to paint that top – gold doesn’t work for me.
trays
I got these cute vintage trays at a different thriftstore. These would look so pretty hanging on a wall if you didn’t want to use them as trays.
 bagoftrim
I was so excited to find this bag of trim!! Look at all this.
 bluetrim
There are 7 yards of the blue trim. I doubt I will ever use that purple cording though!
 lace
8 yards of this beautiful lace trim!
 glider
My favorite find was this brand new glider at Goodwill! That’s actually what I told my husband I wanted for my birthday! We had been pricing them at several places.

It was $99 including the cushion (which is the same pattern I have in my screened porch)! The cushion alone costs about $40 at Home Depot and the glider is $149 there. They had quite a few new patio pieces that day at Goodwill. They had the matching lounge chair and bar height table and chairs for example. I don’t know where they get their brand new merchandise from or why.

Newdecanter

This is what I did with the decanter and 4 glasses I found. I added them to the decanters that I have on this bureau.

Wreath

I recently took down my burlap heart wreath. So I made this coffee filter wreath the other day. I really like look of layering something on top of a mirror.

Thanks for stopping by to see my thriftstore finds. I’m really lucky that I have  excellent thriftstores as I don’t go to yardsales!

Have a wonderful week!

That was all spectacular. I'm so glad about the glider- funny how that works.

I believe in what I call "clothes Karma" when I give a bag of donated goods somehow better things that I really want are more easily found at the thrift store! Funny how that seems to work. (My guess is that you have been donating- havent you?)

I love your vintage trays, and the glider made me want to jump in the car and drive directly to our GW to shop. 😉 Ours tends to be a bit pricey though. I'm visiting from Rhoda's Thrifty Treasures party. Hope you'll stop by. 🙂

What fun and great finds. How exciting to find such a nice glider at GW. Our GW gets new merchandise from Target.
The bird looks like one that I bought at a nice gift shop last spring. If it is the same one, it is meant to be a vase and looks adorable with little flowers in it. I did a post about it last March and had some tiny daffodils in it.
I know you will have fun playing with your treasures.

  28. Erica says

What great finds!!! The Goodwill in our area is not really 'good' anymore – lots of the cheap brand new stuff…ugh…oh well. I'm really looking forward to yard sale season ;o)

The decanters make for a great display on your silver tray and with the mirror behind them add some sparkle! Love the red container ~ it suits your decor, Manuela!

  32. Manuela@TPOH says

    March 15, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Elizabeth, I don't normally go to yardsales because I'm not an early morning person. You have to get up pretty early to get the good stuff at yardsales. There's nothing I need that badly to get up early on a day I don't have to! Actually I don't NEED any of this stuff so I don't make a huge effort to get it.

I'm starting to realize it's not just the stuff you get, but it's that you know what to do with it. You have a wonderful eye. I go to a thrift shop and I see things I like, but I ask myself what would I do with it and I don't have the answer so I leave it there. Linda

I have those same glasses like the 4 you found. I have about 6 of them, and found them on two different trips to Goodwill. I let my littles use them instead of always plastic cups so they can feel "fancy"! And since I only paid a total of 5 dollars for all of them I don't mind if they accidentally break one.

I love your finds – and I have a sweet little bird vase too – a gift from a friend. In summer it sits on my kitchen windowsill by the sink and my sweet son is allowed to keep it filled with a single sweet blossom from the garden each day – it's perfect because since he is a boy, and 9 years old at that, the flowers he picks have *very* short stems and wouldn't hold their heads up in anything taller!
