The Sheet Music Stand

By Manuela Williams

Hi everyone! Some of you may remember when I bought this

Before
at Goodwill (for under $7!) and thought it would make a great nightstand since I could use all those slots for my plethora of magazines!

sheetmusictable
Here it is! I painted it black (I think I may go back and distress it a bit when I have more time). It’s just perfect!

Readingmaterial1
Want to see what I’m reading? “The Fixer Upper” is sooo good. It’s all about this young lobbyist from DC who moves to Guthrie, Georgia to fix up an old neglected house that her father inherited called Birdsong. There’s more than just house stuff going on, there’s some political intrigue and romance too. The author lives in Atlanta so it’s peppered with stuff you’ll recognize if you live here.

sideview
Here’s a side view of the table  – I just love the lines of the legs!

bedskirt
Another thing I got at the thriftstore is this queen size cream and black Waverly bedskirt. I also found a red and white ticking twin that I’m going to use in the guestroom.

bdskrt
This is a platform bed and you really need a king if it’s going to go under the mattress because the platform part isn’t just flat. I already had a king black skirt on the bed,  so I thought it would be pretty if I layered the Waverly on top of the black one – a double ruffled dust ruffle.  Well it’s just not working for me! Maybe if the dustruffle underneath was white or cream? Right now it just looks like the Waverly one is too short since the black skirt disappears. I’ll figure something out – sometimes things just don’t workout the way you think they will!

Here are a few more photos.

Picture
This picture is matted in black and white ticking. I got it at Target years ago. I remember they had a series and now I wish I had bought the other prints!

plate
The wall color is Robins Egg Blue by Martha Stewart (when she had paint at Sears).

Redworkpillow
A pillow from my Redwork collection.

Thanks for dropping by today! Hope you all are having a good week so far.

This post has given me a idea of painting my old bedroom furniture black. I think it would look great but the problem is the walls are chocolate brown and it would probably make the room too dark I think.

The sheet music stand looks wonderful painted black and it's good to know that is as functional as it is lovely. I have the same problem with width on dust ruffles so use a double one as well. What a pretty "tree-housy" view out your bedroom window.

It's perfect!! Love it in black and it fits so nicely in your charming room. What a great idea for any magazine lover (and you know that most of us gals are)! I noticed the Fixer Upper on top of your stack. I read that right after it first came out and enjoyed it. Have you read her other titles? I love Mary Kay's Florida house!!

    Love,
    Susan and Bentley

    Hi Manuela…
Love your new nightstand! Great find. Don't you love it when your plan works out.
Now, for the one that didn't…what if every foot or so, you slightly pulled the Waverly bedskirt up (ribbon, sew) to give it a softly scalloped look? That would show more of the black skirt and it would fade away the way it appears to now. Just a thought…
You will think of something…can't wait to see.

    Warm wishes,
    Susie

That turned out great, Manuela! It is definitely perfect for magazines! I love your toile bedding and the new bedskirt looks great with it. I didn't even realize the black was under it until you said. I went a cheapy route and put a linen bedskirt I bought at Target right over the bedskirt that we have on. I was lazy, but I also wanted to see if I liked how it looked without removing the current one.

See, I never would have thought of using a music stand that way. It's beautiful, though! I do have a lot of sheet music, being a church pianist; wonder if I could find one of those somewhere?

I like how the dust ruffle looks. My first thought was that it looked great with the black one under it! LOL

I grew up in Greenville, SC, so anything Atlanta interests me. I'll have to see if I can find that book!

Oh, I love how that looks next to your bed! Perfect form and function! I actually like the black bedskirt underneath. But to me it looks like it should be attached to the one above. I wonder if it would work if you either sewed it to it, or took the easy way out and pinned it to see how it would look???

Great find on that bed skirt. I liked it with the black, but when you said that the black kind of disappears, I could see what you meant. I'm sure you will score a perfect solution. You have the best eye.

You mentioned previously that your daughter was going to SCAD Atlanta. I guess she inherited her mom's creativity? Lucky girl!!

Thanks again for the recipe 🙂

Your bedroom is so calm and relaxing! I love love your wall lamps! I may do this in my room too. I've been thinking of my lighting in there for some time. Your Target print is lovely! I bought 3 at Target years ago for my daughter's room and found the last one of the series, but didn't get it. Now, I kick myself for not buying it to complete the series! My room is still in progress-furniture rearranged, and new wall paint, but needs to redo the flooring and paint the trimwork and add accessories. I will get back to it when I am done with the other main areas.

Love your room! I've been debating on whether to decorate our newly painted "Elusive Blue" room with brown or black. After seeing your pictures, I may very well go with black. Our bathroom is the same color and I'm already coming up with a black and white color scheme based on things I have on hand, including some toile fabric, a yard sale find, that I think would make a nice shower curtain if it works right. 🙂

I also appreciated your post on making the most of your home. Such a great reminder! We just moved into a rental home and I feel so much (mostly self-inflicted) pressure to change things! Decorate! Buy this or that! It will come together when it comes together and in the meantime, I'm working on being content and making the most of what I have! A big plus to our new home is that I'm within walking distance of two thrift stores! Woo hoo!
