Hi everyone! Some of you may remember when I bought this
at Goodwill (for under $7!) and thought it would make a great nightstand since I could use all those slots for my plethora of magazines!

Here it is! I painted it black (I think I may go back and distress it a bit when I have more time). It’s just perfect!
Want to see what I’m reading? “The Fixer Upper” is sooo good. It’s all about this young lobbyist from DC who moves to Guthrie, Georgia to fix up an old neglected house that her father inherited called Birdsong. There’s more than just house stuff going on, there’s some political intrigue and romance too. The author lives in Atlanta so it’s peppered with stuff you’ll recognize if you live here.
Here’s a side view of the table – I just love the lines of the legs!
Another thing I got at the thriftstore is this queen size cream and black Waverly bedskirt. I also found a red and white ticking twin that I’m going to use in the guestroom.
This is a platform bed and you really need a king if it’s going to go under the mattress because the platform part isn’t just flat. I already had a king black skirt on the bed, so I thought it would be pretty if I layered the Waverly on top of the black one – a double ruffled dust ruffle. Well it’s just not working for me! Maybe if the dustruffle underneath was white or cream? Right now it just looks like the Waverly one is too short since the black skirt disappears. I’ll figure something out – sometimes things just don’t workout the way you think they will!
Here are a few more photos.
This picture is matted in black and white ticking. I got it at Target years ago. I remember they had a series and now I wish I had bought the other prints!
The wall color is Robins Egg Blue by Martha Stewart (when she had paint at Sears).
A pillow from my Redwork collection.
Thanks for dropping by today! Hope you all are having a good week so far.

I do remember when you got that and it turned out awesome! The room looks very pretty!

This post has given me a idea of painting my old bedroom furniture black. I think it would look great but the problem is the walls are chocolate brown and it would probably make the room too dark I think.
Vee says
The sheet music stand looks wonderful painted black and it's good to know that is as functional as it is lovely. I have the same problem with width on dust ruffles so use a double one as well. What a pretty "tree-housy" view out your bedroom window.

I love how it turned out…just beautiful!
Enjoy!

I wish I could find something like that at Goodwill! It is gorgeous! Love it painted black too!!

It's perfect!! Love it in black and it fits so nicely in your charming room. What a great idea for any magazine lover (and you know that most of us gals are)! I noticed the Fixer Upper on top of your stack. I read that right after it first came out and enjoyed it. Have you read her other titles? I love Mary Kay's Florida house!!
Love,
Susan and Bentley

I really like how it turned out, and a great storage place for books/magazines. You did good!

Hi Manuela…
Love your new nightstand! Great find. Don't you love it when your plan works out.
Now, for the one that didn't…what if every foot or so, you slightly pulled the Waverly bedskirt up (ribbon, sew) to give it a softly scalloped look? That would show more of the black skirt and it would fade away the way it appears to now. Just a thought…
You will think of something…can't wait to see.
Warm wishes,
Susie
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
That turned out great, Manuela! It is definitely perfect for magazines! I love your toile bedding and the new bedskirt looks great with it. I didn't even realize the black was under it until you said. I went a cheapy route and put a linen bedskirt I bought at Target right over the bedskirt that we have on. I was lazy, but I also wanted to see if I liked how it looked without removing the current one.

Susan says
See, I never would have thought of using a music stand that way. It's beautiful, though! I do have a lot of sheet music, being a church pianist; wonder if I could find one of those somewhere?
I like how the dust ruffle looks. My first thought was that it looked great with the black one under it! LOL
I grew up in Greenville, SC, so anything Atlanta interests me. I'll have to see if I can find that book!

The nightstand looks beautiful…I love lots of books, too! And the pillow is adorable! I want to start doing embroidery but I don't know where to start! ♥
Brenda@Cozy Little House says
Oh, I love how that looks next to your bed! Perfect form and function! I actually like the black bedskirt underneath. But to me it looks like it should be attached to the one above. I wonder if it would work if you either sewed it to it, or took the easy way out and pinned it to see how it would look???

Love your bedroom and that piece looks great black. I don't know much about Decatur except my Dad use to work there and my son in law use to be a cop there.

The nightstand turned out great. Sitting next to your bed I can see that it is bigger than I thought originally. Just perfect!
I'm reading The Fixer Upper too. It's a fun book. I have enjoyed all of hers so far.

Hi Manuela! Your music table looks wonderful! Love all those little cubbies! You do find the nicest things! I really like your bedroom too – the black and white with the blue really makes a statement! Love your Target picture too!
I'm going to look for that book! Sounds great.
Be a sweetie,

I love the nightstand just the way it is and wouldn't distress it. It looks great!
Great find on that bed skirt. I liked it with the black, but when you said that the black kind of disappears, I could see what you meant. I'm sure you will score a perfect solution. You have the best eye.
You mentioned previously that your daughter was going to SCAD Atlanta. I guess she inherited her mom's creativity? Lucky girl!!

I LOVE the sheet music stand transformed with black to a night stand. It is PERFECT!!!! I would have never thought of that but I absolutely LOVE it!! I have a ton of magazines too and it would work so well in my bedroom also. Your bedroom is beautiful!!!

It really turned out nice, and what a perfect bedside table that is, especially for magazines! I enjoyed your previous post about your garden and pumpkins too. I grew them last year, but I didn't try again this year, as they took up too much space in my little garden.
Thanks again for the recipe 🙂
Blessings,
Marcia

Ooh, what a brilliant idea! I know exactly what you mean about all those magazines–I have a big sloppy pile on my nightstand and no matter how hard I try I can never seem to keep them out of there. Your project looks great and the room looks amazing! Lovely!

I love the table. It is perfect! I just bought The Fixer Upper last yesterday when I went to the city. I cannot wait to start it now after your good review. I am almost finished with the book I am reading.

Your bedroom is so calm and relaxing! I love love your wall lamps! I may do this in my room too. I've been thinking of my lighting in there for some time. Your Target print is lovely! I bought 3 at Target years ago for my daughter's room and found the last one of the series, but didn't get it. Now, I kick myself for not buying it to complete the series! My room is still in progress-furniture rearranged, and new wall paint, but needs to redo the flooring and paint the trimwork and add accessories. I will get back to it when I am done with the other main areas.

Love your new nightstand. Your headboard reminds me a lot of my old one that we passed along to my daughter. I will definitely show her the picture, as we have been thinking it would look great painted black. Right now, it's a light oak color… Love your room!
Ceekay- Thinkin of Home says
Ok, I know it is different in person, but I love the layered dust ruffle….I have such a problem with the ruffles being too short also! And I have thought about getting a king size one!!
Gumbo Lily says
I absolutely love that music stand now-turned-bed-stand. It really is perfect next to your bed. I was out furniture shopping yesterday and saw a living room set that reminds me of your bedding pattern — black and white. It was so comfy.
I think your second hand stores are "high end." I never see anything as cool as the things you bring home at my stores.

Love the pictures. I have an idea about the black bedskirt – trim the hem with cording covered with a print or ticking. I'll be anxious to see what you come up with – you are so creative.

Hi Manuela, I missed this post because I have been so busy, but I want to tell you that your bedroom is so pretty! I love it. The black headboard and little table that you fixedup are wonderful! And I love the color of your walls, very nice! The bedskirt is really pretty, too bad you couldn't switch them so the lighter color is on the bottom. All in all, it's a lovely restful looking room.

Love your room! I've been debating on whether to decorate our newly painted "Elusive Blue" room with brown or black. After seeing your pictures, I may very well go with black. Our bathroom is the same color and I'm already coming up with a black and white color scheme based on things I have on hand, including some toile fabric, a yard sale find, that I think would make a nice shower curtain if it works right. 🙂
I also appreciated your post on making the most of your home. Such a great reminder! We just moved into a rental home and I feel so much (mostly self-inflicted) pressure to change things! Decorate! Buy this or that! It will come together when it comes together and in the meantime, I'm working on being content and making the most of what I have! A big plus to our new home is that I'm within walking distance of two thrift stores! Woo hoo!
